Your Opportunity
Stantec is seeking a Structural Engineer to join our team of transportation professionals servicing state and municipal clients in Maine, New Hampshire, and throughout New England. This position would be based out of the Portland, ME or Auburn, NH office, but you would be part of a larger New England transportation design group with offices in South Burlington, VT; Burlington & Boston, MA; and several other satellite offices. The New England structures group consists of about 30 bridge staff with varied experience and project backgrounds.
The Stantec Transportation group provides services to both private and public sector clients. While you will be focusing on work in Maine and the Northeast, the successful candidate will also have opportunities to collaborate with our other teams across the United States and in Canada and support their project needs as opportunities arise. Your Key Responsibilities
  • Perform bridge design and analysis.
  • Develop design plans, technical specifications, and construction cost estimates.
  • Prepare, check, and deliver engineering calculations, reports, and technical studies.
  • Build a strong culture of quality design and teamwork.
  • Assist with occasional bridge inspection and load rating assignments.
  • Carry out constructability reviews during the design of conventionally procured projects.

Your Capabilities and Credentials
  • Experience with MaineDOT, NHDOT, and/or VTrans design standards and practices.
  • Experience with AASHTO LRFD Bridge Design Specifications is desired.
  • Effective verbal, visual, and written communication skills.
  • Proficient in MicroStation, MathCAD, Inroads, & Microsoft Office.
  • Experience using bridge design and analysis software (Merlin-Dash, CSiBridge, STAAD, AASHTOware, LPile, Group, LEAP-steel/concrete, etc.) is desired.
  • Experience with bridge inspection and load rating is desired.
  • Ability to participate and collaborate in project team setting, engage in creative and critical thought, and effectively communicate ideas, design issues, and solutions to others

Education and Experience
  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering.
  • Master's degree in Structural Engineering desired.
  • Minimum of five (5) years of experience.
  • Licensed Professional Engineer required.

Position will primarily be in an office setting; may require some field work. The ability to work part-time from home will be extended to the candidate once in-office working relationships are established.

Pay Transparency: In compliance with pay transparency laws, pay ranges are provided for positions in locations where required. Please note, the final agreed upon compensation is based on individual education, qualifications, experience, and work location. At Stantec certain roles are bonus eligible. Actual compensation for part-time roles will be pro-rated based on the agreed number of working hours per week.
Benefits Summary: Regular full-time and part-time employees (working at least 20 hours per week) have access to medical, dental, and vision plans, a wellness program, health saving accounts, flexible spending accounts, 401(k) plan, employee stock purchase program, life and accidental death & dismemberment (AD&D) insurance, short-term/long-term disability plans, emergency travel benefits, tuition reimbursement, professional membership fee coverage and paid family leave. Regular full-time and part-time employees will receive ten paid holidays in each calendar year. In addition, employees will be eligible to accrue vacation between 10 and 20 days per year and eligible for paid sick leave (and if more generous, in accordance with state and local law).
Temporary/casual employees have access to 401(k) plans, employee stock purchase program, and paid leave, in accordance with state and local law.
