Job description

The Breeding Technician helps care for breeding animals and supports daily breeding and enrichment activities. This position works with animal care, veterinary, and breeding teams to keep animals healthy, follow breeding schedules, and provide a clean, safe, and enriching environment. Responsibilities include observing animal behavior, helping with breeding tasks, keeping accurate records, monitoring animal health, and maintaining animal housing.
Essential Responsibilities:
  • Observe and monitor animals for behavioral and physical indicators associated with breeding program activities.
  • Safely move animals and make housing or pen changes while following proper animal handling procedures.
  • Assist with breeding program activities and verify breeding-related records and information.
  • Collect, document, and maintain breeding and animal information in company databases and other recordkeeping systems.
  • Monitor animal health and well-being, document and report to supervisors and veterinary staff.
  • Support breeding schedules and maintain accurate records related to breeding timelines and animal identification.
  • Coordinate the movement of animals between breeding, maternity, enrichment spaces and other designated housing areas as needed.
  • Ensure animals receive routine enrichment opportunities that promote overall well-being.
  • Maintain cleanliness and sanitation standards in animal housing and work areas.
  • Follow all animal welfare, biosecurity, safety, and company policies and procedures.
  • Other duties as assigned

Requirements
Education: High School Diploma or GED
Competency Requirements: Individual is proficient at effectively and consistently performing essential tasks. Individual has basic computer skills required to accomplish daily tasks and can learn internal systems. Strong observation, recordkeeping and organizational skills. Effective verbal and written communication and comprehension skills. Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
Leadership Requirements: Individual will contribute to a productive and professional environment by setting a positive example and demonstrating enthusiasm, diligence, and ethical behavior and by demonstrating accountability, adaptability, and continuous improvement.
Work Conditions: Varying temperatures with animal contact. Hearing protection along with other PPE is required. Duties are performed primarily on 1st shift with varying extended hours.
Physical Requirement: Work is physically demanding with a requirement to lift animals.
Mental Requirement: Individual is capable of effectively receiving, understanding and applying written and oral instructions. Must be a good communicator.
Hours for this role are 5:30 am - 1 pm with a weekend rotation.
This position is a grade N3 with a pay range of $18.81-$28.23/hour.
