What does a Brand Design Manager do?

A Brand Design Manager is responsible for overseeing and guiding the visual identity and creative direction of a brand. They manage the design team, collaborate with marketing and product departments, and ensure that all branding materials are consistent and aligned with the company's values and goals. Job description

This position requires office presence of a minimum of 5 days per week and is only located in the location(s) posted. No relocation is offered.
At AT&T, we are building on an iconic design legacy first envisioned by trailblazer Saul Bass. This is a rare opportunity to join a world-class studio and help shape the next era of one of the most recognized brands in the world.
Reporting to the AVP, Head of Brand Design, this highly visible senior design leader will shape and deliver best-in-class brand assets, identity systems, and digital experiences at scale. The ideal candidate brings 12+ years of experience in-house, at an agency, or both, with a demonstrated ability to translate business priorities into compelling brand expression that drives market impact across customer touchpoints.
This leader combines strategic acumen, exceptional craft, and deep customer focus with the credibility and presence to align and influence at the highest levels. They will lead the ongoing evolution and optimization of AT&T's global brand identity systems across all channels and mediums, including digital, retail, experiential, advertising, and out-of-home.
Success in this role requires both creative excellence and operational discipline: the ability to bring clarity to ambiguity, align stakeholders around clear objectives, and deliver exceptional work with speed, rigor, and accountability. Equally important, this leader must be willing to work hands-on when needed, moving seamlessly between setting creative direction and executing the work itself.
This individual will serve as a trusted creative partner across the studio and the broader enterprise, building strong cross-functional relationships, elevating the quality of design, and championing design as a strategic business driver. They will also contribute to a strong culture of design excellence through mentorship, teaching, curiosity, and humility.
Core Responsibilities
  • Lead the strategy, development, and execution of brand assets, identity systems, and digital experiences that advance the global brand.
  • Help shape and activate the broader brand design vision through world-class creative work that strengthens and evolves the brand.
  • Translate business objectives, customer needs, and market insights into distinctive, high-impact creative solutions.
  • Drive the optimization and stewardship of the brand identity system across channels, platforms, and touchpoints to ensure consistency, quality, and scalability.
  • Set and uphold a high standard for design excellence through strong concepts, clear creative direction, and exceptional execution.
  • Lead projects from brief through delivery, managing scope, timelines, budgets, production, and business outcomes with a high degree of independence.
  • Develop creative briefs and brand guidelines that provide clarity, inspire adoption, and enable consistent execution.
  • Build trusted relationships across cross-functional teams and serve as a strategic creative partner to stakeholders at all levels, including senior executives.
  • Present ideas and design solutions with clarity and confidence, while contributing meaningfully to critiques, workshops, and team development through active mentorship.
  • Leverage emerging tools and technologies, including AI-enabled workflows, to improve speed, scale, and efficiency while maintaining creative integrity and design quality.

Qualifications
  • Portfolio required (link or attachment accepted). The portfolio should demonstrate a high caliber of brand identity and design work, ideally for large-scale, consumer-facing brands.
  • 12+ years of experience in brand design, identity systems, and creative leadership, either in-house, at an agency, or both. Experience within a Fortune 500 environment is a plus.
  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Branding, Graphic Design, Communication Design, or a related field.
  • Deep expertise in building large consumer brands, including brand development, systems and guidelines, and tools that drive adoption and consistency.
  • Technical mastery of industry-standard design tools, including Adobe Creative Suite (Illustrator, Photoshop, InDesign). Familiarity with Figma, After Effects, and Adobe XD is a plus. Candidate must have experience with advanced ai tools and platforms.
  • Proven ability to lead through influence and communicate the value of design to non-design stakeholders.

Education/Experience: Bachelor's degree (BS/BA) or advanced degree desired. 12+ years of related experience.
