Job description

The Design Director is a senior design leader responsible for defining and driving a holistic design strategy across visual identity, marketing campaigns, and cultural platforms. This role ensures consistency, scalability, and innovation across enterprise experiences while elevating the overall design quality of the brand. The role is both strategic and hands-on, requiring strong creative execution alongside leadership of a high-performing design team. The Design Director partners cross-functionally to align design systems, improve usability, and deliver cohesive, customer-centered experiences that drive brand relevance and business growth.
This role is hybrid, which means you will be required to work on site Monday through Thursday at the Best Buy corporate office in Richfield, Minnesota. You can work virtually from home or another non‑Best Buy location on Friday. The recruiter or hiring manager will provide more details during the hiring process.
What you’ll do
  • Define and evolve the brand’s visual language, ensuring clarity and consistency across all touchpoints
  • Establish scalable design standards and comprehensive style guides
  • Drive innovation in design execution across campaigns and enterprise platforms
  • Lead and develop a team of designers by providing clear direction, ongoing feedback, and growth opportunities while promoting a collaborative, creative, and high-performing environment
  • Drive the development and adoption of digital design systems across platforms
  • Ensure seamless omnichannel execution across digital, social, and physical experiences
  • Maintain a high bar for craftsmanship and attention to detail
  • Implement and optimize design processes to improve efficiency and scalability
  • Champion best practices in design workflow, tools, and collaboration
  • Partner with marketing, product, technology, and business teams to ensure alignment
  • Advocate for design as a strategic function that enhances usability and customer experience
  • Influence stakeholders to drive cohesive, enterprise-wide solutions
Basic qualifications
  • 10+ years of experience in design, with a strong focus on visual, digital, or brand design
  • 8+ years of experience working with world-class brands or leading creative agencies
  • 5+ years of leadership experience, including managing and developing teams
  • Proven portfolio showcasing high-quality, thoughtfully crafted work across platforms
  • Extensive expertise in digital design systems and omnichannel execution
  • Strong communication and stakeholder management skills
Preferred qualifications
  • Experience working with AI-enabled design workflows and tools
  • Strong background in retail and/or enterprise-scale design systems
  • Experience operating in large, complex, matrixed organizations
  • Ability to connect design strategy to business outcomes and performance metrics
  • Exceptional collaboration skills with the ability to influence cross-functional partners
  • Bachelor’s degree in Design, related field (or equivalent experience)
