What is a brand curator?

Brand Curators are professionals responsible for shaping, maintaining, and elevating the public perception of a brand. They carefully select and manage the visual, verbal, and experiential elements that represent a company's identity across various platforms. Their work often includes overseeing marketing campaigns, collaborating with designers and content creators, and ensuring brand consistency. Brand Curators play a key role in building brand loyalty and differentiating a company in the marketplace.

How does a brand curator typically collaborate with marketing and creative teams to maintain consistent brand messaging?

As a Brand Curator, you’ll work closely with marketing and creative teams to ensure all brand communications align with the company's identity and values. This often involves participating in strategy meetings, reviewing campaign materials, and providing guidance on visual and verbal brand elements. You’ll also act as a liaison between departments, facilitating feedback and ensuring consistency across all platforms. Effective collaboration and clear communication are essential to maintaining a unified brand presence.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a brand curator, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Brand Curator, you need expertise in brand strategy, visual storytelling, and market analysis, often supported by a degree in marketing, communications, or a related field. Familiarity with digital design tools (such as Adobe Creative Suite), content management systems, and social media analytics platforms is typically required. Creativity, keen attention to detail, and strong communication skills help a Brand Curator effectively shape and convey a brand's identity. These skills are essential for building compelling brand narratives that engage audiences and drive business growth.

What is the difference between Brand Curator vs Brand Manager?

AspectBrand CuratorBrand Manager
CredentialsMarketing or branding degree, creative portfolioMarketing degree, experience in brand strategy
Work EnvironmentCreative agencies, marketing teams, branding firmsCorporate marketing departments, consumer brands
ResponsibilitiesCurates brand image, selects visual and messaging elements, manages brand storytellingDevelops brand strategy, oversees campaigns, manages brand performance

While both roles focus on brand identity, a Brand Curator emphasizes selecting and shaping visual and narrative elements to craft a unique brand image. A Brand Manager oversees overall brand strategy, ensuring consistency and market growth. The roles often collaborate but differ in scope and focus.

Do I need a degree to be a brand curator?

A degree is not strictly required to be a brand curator, but relevant education in marketing, branding, or communications can be beneficial. Many successful brand curators develop skills through experience, portfolio work, and understanding of branding tools and strategies.

Job description

RH at its core is about taste, and we believe the idea of scaling taste is large and far reaching.

The RH brand attracts the best designers, artisans, manufacturers and talent in our industry, scaling and rendering their work more valuable across our integrated platform, enabling us to curate the most compelling collection of luxury home furnishings in the world. We are moving the brand beyond curating and selling products to conceptualizing and selling spaces by building an ecosystem of products, places, services and spaces that elevates and establishes the RH brand as a global thought leader, taste and place maker.

At RH we believe deeply that the "right" people are our greatest asset. We value people with high energy, who possess the ability to energize others. People who are smart, creative and have a point of view. People who see the answer in every problem, versus those who see the problem in every answer. People who are driven, determined and won't take "no" for an answer. We value team players, people who are more concerned with what's right, rather than who's right.

RH is seeking a Gallery Curator with a passion for design and home furnishings who will lead a cross-functional team focused on strategy and execution. The Curator role is ideal for those with a sense of personal style, polished appearance, refined taste and a discerning eye for luxury. An RH Curator must understand the importance of attracting and retaining talent who also uphold the same personal and professional standards.

YOUR RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Live Our Vision, Values and Beliefs every day
  • Develop visual merchandising plans with Gallery Leadership and centralized RH Visual teams to build on strategies and grow the business
  • Work with internal partners to establish strategies that drive sales and ensure execution according to RH standards
  • Train Gallery teams on merchandise set, signage and graphics updates, Gallery maintenance, recovery and cleanliness
  • Learn and communicate the RH design point of view and product assortment
  • Continuously drive results through team engagement, empowerment and accountability

OUR REQUIREMENTS

  • 5+ years leadership and visual experience within luxury retail
  • Proven experience embracing change and delivering top results with a positive attitude no matter what the obstacle
  • Ability to recognize and respond appropriately to complex priorities
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both in writing and verbally
  • Curious self-educator who seeks information and asks questions
  • Strong leadership skills and strategic mentality with experience motivating and leading teams based on business analysis
  • Experience creating positive and healthy work environments in which people want to do their best
  • Commitment to quality, detail-focused on all levels

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Ability to lift and mobilize small to medium items up to 30 lbs. while utilizing appropriate equipment and techniques
  • Ability to maneuver effectively around gallery floor, stock room and office
  • Position entails prolonged standing, twisting, stooping, kneeling, squatting, bending and climbing
RH is an equal opportunity employer and does not discriminate against any applicant on the basis of race, color, religion, national origin, gender, marital status, age, disability, sexual orientation, military/veteran status, or any other status protected by federal or state law or local ordinance.

At RH, we are committed to promoting pay equity. Rate of pay is determined based on each individual's experience, qualifications, and the geographic location of the role.
