Job description

Portland Bolt, located in Portland’s Northwest Industrial area, is an organization whose business success has been built around the philosophy of providing unparalleled service, quality products, and on-time deliveries. Established in 1912, Portland Bolt manufactures large bolts and fasteners for construction projects worldwide which include high-rise buildings, bridges, power plants, and stadiums. In 2022, Portland Bolt manufactured and shipped over 6.8 million pounds of anchor bolts and construction fasteners to customers in all 50 states, 10 Canadian provinces and territories, and 31 different countries.

Swing Shift: Monday-Friday 2:30pm - 11:00pm

The CNC Operator is responsible for setting up, operating, and maintaining CNC machines to produce high-quality precision parts and components. This role involves reading and interpreting blueprints and technical drawings, making necessary adjustments to ensure parts meet specifications, and conducting routine maintenance on equipment.

Essential Job Functions:

  • Machine Operation: Set up and operate CNC lathe and/or mills, to produce parts according to specifications.
  • Blueprint Interpretation: Read and interpret technical drawings, blueprints, and specifications to determine the appropriate machining process.
  • Programming and Adjustments: Input and adjust machine programs, ensuring proper alignment and calibration to meet part specifications.
  • Quality Control: Inspect and measure finished parts using precision tools such as micrometers, calipers, and gauges to ensure they meet quality standards.
  • Maintenance: Perform routine maintenance on CNC machines, including cleaning, lubricating, and replacing parts as needed.
  • Safety: Adhere to all safety protocols and procedures to maintain a safe working environment and prevent accidents.
  • Documentation: Maintain accurate records of production runs, machine maintenance, and any issues encountered during operation.
  • Problem-Solving: Identify and troubleshoot mechanical or programming issues, making necessary adjustments to resolve problems.
  • Continuous Improvement: Suggest and implement process improvements to enhance efficiency, productivity, and quality.

Education:

High School diploma or GED

Years of Experience:

Previous experience operating CNC machines is required. Experience with specific types of CNC equipment or programming languages

Knowledge / Mental / Skill Requirements:

  • Strong understanding of technical drawings and blueprints.
  • Proficiency with precision measurement tools.
  • Ability to program and adjust CNC machines.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
  • Basic mechanical skills and understanding of machine maintenance.

List Equipment, Tools, Machines and Software used for the Position:

Equipment: CNC Lathe and hand tools as primary equipment. As required, plasma table, Landis cut threaders, saws, shears.

Software: CNC Interface w/ Fanuc controls

Physical Activities of the Position:

Ability to lift and move heavy materials, stand for long periods, and perform tasks that require manual dexterity.
