Position Overview: A Safety Representative inspects machinery, equipment, and working conditions to ensure compliance with occupational safety and health regulations.
Key Responsibilities:
- Inspects machines and equipment for accident prevention devices.
- Observes workers to determine use of prescribed safety equipment, i.e., hard hats, safety goggles, steel toe boots, etc. and make sure workers are in compliance with safety rules and procedures.
- Inspects specified areas for fire-prevention equipment and other safety and first-aid supplies.
- Becomes a Shipyard Competent Person (SCP).
- Assists with the investigations of incidents to determine a cause and suggest prevention methods.
- Conduct safety orientation to all new hires with respect to safety rules and procedures.
- Assists with safety meetings and trainings.
- Maintains training records.
- Will learn and become familiar with the facility safety program.
Qualifications:
- Three (3) months of experience in the safety field preferred.
Skills and Abilities:
- Have a complete working knowledge of general safety practices, policies, and procedures.
- A basic knowledge of computers and recordkeeping.
- Good communication skills, including written and oral communication.
- Works well with others.
- Basic knowledge of safety techniques and first aid.
