Job description

Job Title: Safety Representative
Location: Houma, LA
Position Overview: A Safety Representative inspects machinery, equipment, and working conditions to ensure compliance with occupational safety and health regulations.
Key Responsibilities:
  • Inspects machines and equipment for accident prevention devices.
  • Observes workers to determine use of prescribed safety equipment, i.e., hard hats, safety goggles, steel toe boots, etc. and make sure workers are in compliance with safety rules and procedures.
  • Inspects specified areas for fire-prevention equipment and other safety and first-aid supplies.
  • Becomes a Shipyard Competent Person (SCP).
  • Assists with the investigations of incidents to determine a cause and suggest prevention methods.
  • Conduct safety orientation to all new hires with respect to safety rules and procedures.
  • Assists with safety meetings and trainings.
  • Maintains training records.
  • Will learn and become familiar with the facility safety program.

Qualifications:
  • Three (3) months of experience in the safety field preferred.

Skills and Abilities:
  • Have a complete working knowledge of general safety practices, policies, and procedures.
  • A basic knowledge of computers and recordkeeping.
  • Good communication skills, including written and oral communication.
  • Works well with others.
  • Basic knowledge of safety techniques and first aid.
