MISSION OF THE POSITION

The Boiler Technician plays a crucial role in the operation, maintenance, and repair of boilers and related equipment. This position is responsible for ensuring the safe and efficient functioning of boilers, steam generators, and heating systems. Boiler Technicians I are skilled professionals who perform maintenance tasks, troubleshoot issues, and make necessary repairs to keep boilers running optimally.


ESSENTIAL DUTIES

  1. Monitor and control boiler systems to ensure proper functioning, efficiency, and safety. This includes adjusting controls, fuel inputs, and water levels to maintain optimal operating conditions.
  2. Perform regular inspections and preventive maintenance tasks on boilers and associated equipment. This involves cleaning, lubricating, and replacing parts as needed to prevent breakdowns and ensure compliance with safety standards.
  3. Communicate any order updates or issues with clients, Project Managers, and dispatchers.
  4. Diagnose and repair boiler malfunctions, leaks, and other issues.
  5. Adhere to all safety protocols and regulations to ensure the safe operation of boilers and prevent accidents.
  6. Maintain accurate records or logs of boiler operations, maintenance activities, and repairs in compliance with regulatory requirements.
  7. Identify opportunities to improve boiler efficiency, reduce energy consumption, and minimize operating costs.
  8. Respond quickly and effectively to emergency situations, such as equipment failures or leaks, to prevent damage and ensure the safety of personnel and the environment.
  9. Work closely with other maintenance staff, dispatch, engineers, and management to coordinate maintenance schedules, discuss equipment performance, and plan maintenance tasks.
  10. Stay up-to-date with advancements in boiler technology and attend relevant training sessions to improve skills and knowledge in the field.
  11. Stay informed about local, state, and federal regulations related to boiler operations and ensure compliance with all relevant codes and standards.
  12. As a Boiler Technician I- have basic understanding of finned tube equipment, sequence of operations, combustion analysis and some troubleshooting.
  13. Able to work on basic components and understand the sequence for DHW & Hydronic Systems and some Steam components.
  14. Able to work on controls, boilers, and some start ups from certain manufacturers
  15. 15. Perform other duties as assigned.


Requirements:

EDUCATION

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Associates degree in related field, experience in related field in lieu of degree may be considered, preferred.

CERTIFICATIONS & LICENSES

  • OSHA 10 Safety Training preferred.
  • National Board of Boiler and Pressure Vessel Inspectors (NBBPVI) Certification preferred.
  • American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME) Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code Certification preferred.
  • Annual Basic Plus Safety
  • Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Section 608 Certification preferred.

EXPERIENCE

  • Three (3) to five (5) years of experience as a boiler technician required.
  • NBIC or ASME pressure vessel welding experience preferred.
  • Scotch Marine Boiler Service or Pressure Vessel welding a plus.
  • Siemens, Allen-Bradley, and other PLC and Discreet Digital Controls a plus.
  • Vertical uphill and vertical downhill with a 6G qualifier preferred.
  • Experience with Acumatica ERP a plus
  • Worked in a Dispatch environment
