MISSION OF THE POSITION

The Senior Boiler Technician is a highly experienced and skilled professional in the field of boiler operations and maintenance. In addition to the responsibilities of a regular boiler technician, a senior boiler technician takes on more complex tasks, supervises junior technicians, and may have additional leadership and managerial responsibilities. This position ensures positive employee relations while practicing The Willbanks Way & Values.


Technician Functions

  1. Utilize advanced troubleshooting skills to diagnose and address complex issues with boilers and associated systems.
  2. Coordinate with maintenance teams to implement effective solutions.
  3. Communicate order updates or issues with clients, Project Managers, and Dispatchers.
  4. Identify opportunities for improving boiler efficiency, energy conservation, and cost-effectiveness.
  5. Recommend and implement upgrades or modifications to enhance boiler performance.
  6. Maintain accurate records of maintenance activities, equipment performance, and repairs.
  7. Prepare reports for management to provide insights into operational efficiency and performance.
  8. Oversee and participate in major boiler maintenance projects, such as overhauls, retrofits, or installations. Coordinate with other departments or external contractors as needed.
  9. Stay informed about changing regulations and ensure that the boiler operations remain compliant with all relevant codes, standards, and legal requirements.
  10. Work with equipment suppliers, contractors, and service providers to negotiate contracts, procure parts, and ensure high-quality services for boiler maintenance and repairs.
  11. Tech Functions: Oversee operation, maintenance, & repair of equipment to ensure efficiency. This includes monitoring controls, inspecting equipment, & performing preventive maintenance.

Team Oversight Functions

12.Provide guidance, training, and mentoring to junior boiler technicians.

13. Act as a resource for technical knowledge and problem-solving expertise.

14. Ensure strict adherence to safety protocols, regulations, and industry standards.

15. Promote a strong safety culture within the team and lead by example in maintaining a safe work environment.

16. Lead emergency response efforts during boiler breakdowns, leaks, or other critical situations.

17. Ensure prompt and effective actions to minimize downtime and prevent safety hazards.

18. Keep the team updated on the latest industry practices and safety guidelines.

19. Maintain company issued tools, laptop or tablet, company credit card and company vehicles

20. Work daily in the office and the field from a company provided vehicles

21. Perform all other duties as assigned.


Requirements:

EDUCATION

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Associate degree in related technical field preferred.

CERTIFICATIONS & LICENSES

  • OSHA 10 Safety Training preferred.
  • Annual Basic Plus Safety
  • National Board of Boiler and Pressure Vessel Inspectors (NBBPVI) Certification preferred.
  • American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME) Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code Certification preferred.
  • Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Section 608 Certification preferred.

EXPERIENCE

  • Seven (7) to ten (10) years of experience in the boiler industry required.
  • Mechanical and electrical background required.
  • Knowledge of Programmable Logical Controllers (PLCs), transformers, transmitters, and other controls required.
  • Read and interpret a manometer, electronic or Slack Tube.
  • Properly use and understand a multi-meter.
  • Able to operate a combustion analysis unit.
  • Knowledge of condensate tanks and deaerators required.
  • Knowledge of how to read and interpret wiring diagrams and schematics required.
