Boeing Defense, Space & Security External Communications, Operations & Analytics Specialist (Experienced or Senior)

The Boeing Company is seeking a Boeing Defense, Space & Security (BDS) External Communications, Operations & Analytics Specialist to join their team. We are open to a broad range of experience levels including experienced and senior level specialists to find the best fit for this opportunity. This position plays a dual role in shaping and advancing external communications strategy for a portion of the BDS business, and streamlining Operations and Measurement for the External Communications team.
The successful candidate will collaborate closely with the BDS and Global Communications teams to develop and execute earned and owned media plans. They will also help maintain operational excellence for the External Communications function, including managing the Proactive News Agenda and the team's measurement dashboard.
This position requires strategic thinking, strong judgment, excellent writing and editing skills, and the ability to manage competing priorities in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment. The selected candidate will serve as a key contributor to media relations, content strategy, measurement, reporting and communications operations for the External Communications function.
Position Responsibilities:
  • Lead the creation and execution of earned media strategies that align with BDS objectives, including proactive outreach and engagement with key media stakeholders.
  • Maintain strong relationships with trade media, ensuring timely and accurate coverage of BDS initiatives and stories.
  • Edits and ensures first-time quality for news releases and Response-to-Query (RTQ) documents, de-conflicting potential issues.
  • Collaborate with communications colleagues and subject matter experts to identify emerging issues and opportunities, adjusting strategies as necessary to maximize impact.
  • In alignment with BDS Comms partners, develop and execute owned media strategy for aligned portfolio, especially during surge efforts (major events and milestones)
  • Generate opportunities to deploy the BDS narrative or BDS-level narrative pillars across Paid, Earned, Shared and Owned (PESO) channels
  • Collaboratively, proactively manage and streamline External Communications (EC) meetings, process, reports and tools
  • Help build consistent approach and governance to implement and maintain Proactive News Agenda tracking through Opal
  • Develop and drive Issues & Positions development process
  • Manage the drafting, editing, and distribution of press materials, including press releases, media advisories, and company statements.
  • Manage External Communications function measurement dashboard, aligned with Analytics, Tools & Artificial Intelligence (AI) Strategy team
  • Monitor earned, owned and shared media coverage, and analyze results to inform future communications strategies and improve outcomes.

Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/Experience):
  • Bachelors degree or higher
  • 3+ years of experience in advertising, marketing, and/or external communications
  • 3+ years of experience influencing and building strong relationships with stakeholders and partners across teams
  • 3+ years of experience applying verbal and written communication skills including spelling, grammar, punctuation, form and style, proof reading and editing skills
  • Experience with producing, writing and editing multiple communications deliverables such as news releases, statements, RTQs, feature stories, speeches, videos, social media, etc.
  • Capability to work independently and with a cross-functional team
  • Willing and capable to travel domestically and internationally as needed

Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience):
  • Level 4: 5 or more years' related work experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • 5+ years of experience working in a fast-paced environment with strict deadlines
  • 5+ years of experience with Microsoft office suite
  • Experience developing and executing strategic marketing and communication plans based on business objectives and campaign goals with a performance-based mindset
  • Experience working with trade media, with a track record of building and maintaining effective media relationships
  • Demonstrated willingness to harness resources to tell stories in new and innovative ways
  • Sound judgment in managing crisis communications and high-profile situations and leading strategically complex, high-value and high-impact projects
  • Understanding of the defense acquisition process and familiarity with Department of Defense products/platforms
