The Role

We are seeking experienced, motivated Design Release Engineers to support the next generation of industry-leading Vehicle Body and Chassis Structure Systems Engineering Design and Development. We are committed to enhancing the product – with new features, new materials, and new technologies across the spectrum of engineering subsystems. To do this, we need forward-looking, innovative engineers who can help shape the future. These product engineering positions involve responsibility for all activities - including definition of requirements, execution of design, and validation and testing throughout a vehicle’s lifecycle. These roles require an experienced engineer to lead and drive a cross functional product development team. In addition, they require collaboration with peers in the creative design, purchasing, manufacturing, and quality functions.

  • Body / Chassis Structure Senior DRE
What You'll Do (Responsibilities)
  • Generating and executing technical solutions to support new vehicle programs
  • Providing technical leadership for advanced component or technology development
  • Performing complex design analysis and evaluating engineering designs
  • Working cross-functionally to implement cost reduction ideas, product and process improvements, and to support prototype and production build activities
  • Balancing business imperatives, including but not limited to cost, mass, complexity, and timing through production engineering design release
  • Communicating information to and from internal and external customer organizations
  • Staying abreast of relevant new technology and competitive products
  • Develop and apply new and existing technologies
  • Develop and coordinate component design and systems with manufacturing, analysis, other vehicle subsystems, vehicle development, safety, customers, and other functions
  • Responsible for component & subsystem integrity and compliance to GM technical and quality standards throughout the vehicle’s life cycle
  • Works independently with ability to summarize complex issues for leadership review
Your Skills and Abilities (Required Qualifications)
  • Bachelor of Science Degree in Engineering or Automotive Technology
  • 5+ years engineering experience
What Will Give You a Competitive Edge (Preferred Qualifications)
  • Master’s degree in engineering or another Advanced Degree
  • Proven knowledge with engineering design in Body / Chassis Structure Systems
  • Familiarity with Design for Six Sigma process
  • Experience with DFMEA (Design Failure Mode and Effect Analysis) and GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing)
  • Knowledge of advanced high strength alloy materials, processes, and tooling
  • Knowledge of material joining methods, welding (resistance spot welding and MIG welding), mechanical fastening, and sealing systems
  • Knowledge of Vehicle Dynamics
  • Knowledge of FMVSS Crash regulations and GM Technical Specifications
