Job description

Assistant Manager — Queen & Rook Game Cafe
Queen Village and Fairmount, Philadelphia | Part-Time to Full -Time based on readiness

Queen & Rook Game Cafe is looking for an Assistant Manager ready to start a choose-your-own-adventure with us. We're a full-service restaurant and bar with a library of 2,500+ board games, a retro arcade and retail sales.

About the Role
As Assistant Manager, you'll run shift operations and own three core measures: customer experience, staff management, and retail sales. This is a part-time role with real room to grow as we expand.

Schedule: Must be available for varying shifts, including holidays, weekends, and evenings.

What You'll Do

  • Lead dining room and kitchen staff by example; train and support their professional development
  • Ensure guests get excellent service, whether dining in or ordering delivery
  • Communicate clearly across every channel — in person, phone, email, text
  • Resolve service issues on the spot, or loop in the General Manager when needed
  • Follow all cash-handling policies and procedures
  • Uphold state, federal, and local alcohol service laws and liquor controls
  • Maintain sanitation and safety compliance
  • Support marketing efforts, events, and social media as needed
  • Manage retail game sales and the game library, including regular inventory
  • Stay current on food, hospitality, and board game trends
  • Jump in wherever needed — other duties as they come up

What You'll Bring

  • 2+ years managing in a high-volume restaurant
  • Comfort with cash handling and alcohol service compliance
  • Ability to stand/walk for extended periods; occasionally lift up to 50 lbs, bend, reach, stoop, kneel, or crouch
  • Knowledge of board games, TCGs, or RPGs a plus
  • Retail experience a plus, not required
  • Positive, flexible energy and a genuine passion for hospitality — you'll rely on your team, and they'll rely on you
