Job description

Our partner is seeking a Wastewater Treatment Project Manager for a hybrid role based in the Boston, MA area. This position involves leading wastewater infrastructure projects from evaluation and pilot testing through design, construction, and commissioning. The role focuses on wastewater treatment solutions, plant optimization, regulatory compliance, and collaboration with multidisciplinary teams, clients, and regulatory agencies.

Responsibilities
  • Manage the full lifecycle of wastewater treatment projects, including new facilities, expansions, and upgrades
  • Lead process evaluation and design for primary, secondary, and tertiary treatment systems, including biological nutrient removal (BNR)
  • Evaluate and optimize treatment processes such as activated sludge, membrane bioreactors (MBR), sequencing batch reactors (SBR), trickling filters, and advanced treatment systems
  • Oversee process modeling, mass balance analyses, and capacity evaluations
  • Develop biosolids treatment solutions, including digestion and dewatering processes
  • Manage project budgets, schedules, resources, and deliverables
  • Prepare and present technical reports, plans, specifications, and cost estimates
  • Support permitting and regulatory compliance activities
  • Provide construction-phase services, including submittal reviews, RFIs, field inspections, and startup/commissioning support
  • Mentor junior engineers and support team development
  • Build and maintain client relationships and support business development initiatives\

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Environmental Engineering, or a related engineering field
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license
  • 8+ years of experience in wastewater treatment design and process engineering
  • Experience with municipal wastewater treatment and nutrient removal
  • Experience managing projects and delivering projects on schedule and within budget
  • Strong communication, leadership, and organizational skills
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and AutoCAD
  • Experience with process modeling tools such as BioWin or GPS-X preferred
  • Experience with funding programs such as SRF or USDA Rural Development preferred
  • Ability to travel approximately 5–10% throughout New England
  • Hybrid work schedule with in-office collaboration and remote flexibility
