POSITION TITLE: PARTS ADVISOR

DEPARTMENT: Parts

REPORTS TO: Parts Manager


SUMMARY:

The Parts Advisor is responsible for selling parts to all available customers, over the counter, through the shop, or on the phone.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

  • Handle telephone orders efficiently.
  • Prepare parts counter sales ticket thoroughly.
  • Cost parts on repair orders.
  • Assist in receiving parts in shipping area.
  • Carefully check invoices against orders and stock shelves promptly.
  • Help maintain parts storage in orderly condition.
  • Inform technicians and customers when special order parts arrive.
  • Assist walk-in customers in selecting required parts, suggest companion requirements, offer specials, and ensure that the customer is exposed to the full product line.ย 
  • Pull purchased parts from stock.ย 
  • If the part is not in stock, determine availability and submit an emergency order if requested by the customer or tech.ย 
  • Assist outside sales reps with their orders.ย 
  • Set up orders for daily shipment, delivery, or pick-up.ย 
  • Verify WILL CALL and BACK ORDER files weekly and return to vendors, or stock those items not required.ย 
  • Solicit assigned accounts by phone.ย 
  • Notify service desk and the customer that ordered parts have been received.ย 
  • Ensure that before parts can be charged out, the technician presents a repair order.ย 
  • Display seasonal parts and accessories in an attractive manner.ย 
  • Keep parts catalogs and price books current.ย 
  • Keep all bins, aisles and storage areas clean, neat and clearly labeled.ย 
  • Be friendly, professional and efficient when working with customers and co-workers.ย 
  • Provide the same high level of service to the other dealership departments, as is given to other customers.ย 
  • Issue credit slips for parts returned, ensuring that the original invoice or its number, is available so that purchase and pricing can be verified. Exceptions must be approved by the Parts Manager or Office Manager.ย 
  • Present the customer with the white copy of the invoice after removing the tear strip.ย 
  • Keep front and rear counters clean and uncluttered.ย 
  • Replenish assigned inventory daily.ย 
  • Advise Parts Manager when areas of the department are not in satisfactory condition.ย 
  • Keep current on new products and product updates.ย 
  • Participate in all training programs that are made availableย ย 

Requirements

  • Must be 21 years old or older.
  • Must be able to pass a drug test.
  • Must be able to pass a background check.
  • Must have a valid Texas Driver License.ย 

ย QUALIFICATIONS:ย 

  • High school diploma or equivalent.ย 
  • Ability to read and comprehend instructions and information.ย 
  • One year of experience in an automotive parts dept. preferred.ย 
  • One year of sales experience preferred.ย 
  • Professional personal appearance.ย 
  • Ability to work well with the public, sometimes with several customers at a time.ย 
  • Will be required to wear a dealership uniform at all times.ย
