About the position:

The Co-op will work on a range of special projects for our products including  Advanced Color ePaper, Prism, dynamic windows, autonomous tiles, and other programs.  Recent special projects advancements include a collaboration with BMW to enable color changing concept cars (From CES 2023 - the Revolutionary BMW i Vision DEE Color Changing Car Using E Ink Prism 3 and (123) BMW i5 FLOW NOSTOKANA - fascinating colour changing exterior - YouTube) and creating customer demos with E Ink JustTintTM variable transmission light control film (E Ink JustTint - Bing video).

With creativity and urgency, you will drive:

  • Customer demos
  • Engineering samples and prototypes for customers to enable new market adoption
  • Testing and samples for strategic integrators / partners
  • Elements for marketing promotions at trade shows, events, product showcases
  • Setup for special projects lab

People who fit this role should be able to:

  • Envision abstract concepts and ideas and convert them into designs aligned to stakeholder needs
  • Solve complex problems using creative design processes and tools
  • Manipulate design elements within a product that carry the intended meaning to consumers
  • Communicate and synthesize ideas while working in small, multi-disciplinary teams

Qualifications:

  • Student enrolled in a Mechanical, Electrical, Process Engineering, or similar Engineering or Product Design Program
  • Proficient in CAD/CAM software
  • Ability to document new processes for future use by manufacturing
  • Ability to manage challenging and often open-ended problems, work autonomously and in groups and able to multi-task in an agile environment
  • Self-starter, ability to drive progress with minimum oversight
  • Excellent communication skills: visual, verbal and written

Preferences

Experience with:

  • 3D modeling packages (especially AutoCAD and SOLIDWORKS)
  • Electronics troubleshooting and designing circuits
  • Iterative model making using rapid prototyping equipment
  • Fabricating products with lasers and laminators
  • Acquiring new skills and capabilities required for problem solving
