Job description

Senior Software Engineer- Public Cloud Network
Location
New York
Business Area
Engineering and CTO
Ref #
10049499
Description & Requirements
Our Team
Bloomberg's Network Production Engineering - Public Cloud (NPE-PC) team builds and evolves the hybrid cloud networking platform that enables Bloomberg applications to run reliably, securely, and at scale across multiple public cloud providers. We sit at the intersection of network engineering, cloud infrastructure, and platform automation, ensuring that Bloomberg's growing cloud presence integrates seamlessly with our global private network.
We partner closely with SREs, application teams, security engineering, and our on-prem networking organization. Our work spans the full lifecycle of public cloud networking: architecture, provisioning, deployment pipelines, observability, production readiness, incident response, and continuous improvement. We leverage infrastructure-as-code, cloud-native networking constructs, and automation frameworks to deliver repeatable, reliable networking services across AWS, Azure, and GCP.
What's in it for you
You'll join a team building the next generation of Bloomberg's multi-cloud networking platform-the backbone connecting Bloomberg applications, public cloud environments, customers, and on-prem data centers. You'll work on high-impact, large-scale engineering initiatives such as:
  • Cloud Networking Platform & NPE Services - Building repeatable network patterns and automation for routing domains, private connectivity, hybrid network integration, and cloud provider edge connectivity services (e.g., Direct Connect, ExpressRoute, Interconnect). This includes the workflows, templates, and tooling that standardize how teams consume these services safely and consistently..
  • Platform Reliability & Observability Engineering - Enhancing the resilience and visibility of Bloomberg's cloud networking platform through improved telemetry, automation, performance monitoring, and intelligent alerting-continuously reducing toil and strengthening reliability.
  • Connectivity & Security Governance - ensuring Bloomberg's applications use cloud networking securely and consistently while enabling developer velocity.
  • Cloud-to-On-Prem Resiliency Engineering - ensuring performant, redundant, monitored connectivity between public cloud and Bloomberg's global private network.

You'll take ownership of designing and implementing technical solutions across the networking stack for all three major cloud providers-whether that involves building new capabilities, using cloud-native services, integrating internal Bloomberg platforms, or adopting vetted vendor technologies. You will contribute to architectural decisions, advance cloud networking standards, and help shape how Bloomberg deploys applications in a multi-cloud environment.
We'll trust you to
  • Build automation, orchestration, and tooling to standardize and simplify public cloud networking for application and SRE teams.
  • Operate and improve Bloomberg's production cloud network infrastructure across AWS, Azure, and GCP.
  • Implement robust observability, alerting, incident management, and performance monitoring for cloud networking components.
  • Design scalable, resilient network patterns for hybrid connectivity & service-to-service communication.
  • Partner with on-prem networking and cross-functional engineering groups to align global connectivity strategies.
  • Use Terraform and other IaC tools to provision, manage, and enforce consistent cloud network configurations.
  • Contribute to runbooks, readiness reviews, operational tooling, and processes that continuously improve reliability.
You'll need to have
  • 4+ years of experience in software engineering, network engineering, SRE, or production engineering.
  • Strong programming/scripting ability (Python).
  • Hands-on experience operating or designing highly available distributed systems.
  • Practical experience with AWS, Azure, or GCP networking constructs-including VPC/VNET, Transit Gateway/Virtual WAN, VPN, load balancing, firewalls, Cloud DNS, service endpoints, and routing.
  • Proficiency with Orchestration, Automation Frameworks & Infrastructure as Code: Terraform (HCL), Ansible, Argo Workflows/Argo CD, Apache Airflow.
  • Familiarity with Bloomberg aaS offerings (e.g., BPaaS, Metrics/GUTS, workflow orchestration).
  • Solid understanding of security fundamentals and Bloomberg's security ecosystem.
  • Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills in networking and distributed systems.
We'd love to see
  • Advanced or architect-level certification from AWS, Azure, or GCP.
  • Experience managing or automating hybrid and multi-cloud networking at scale.
  • Deep knowledge of network reliability engineering, incident response, and operational excellence.
  • Experience with cloud networking automation frameworks or custom Terraform providers.
  • Knowledge of Linux systems performance tools and network diagnostics.
  • Experience using identity-driven controls in cloud environments.
  • A strong background in cloud-native networking patterns (e.g., service meshes, private service connectivity, policy-driven routing).
