Job description

Director of IT - Bloomberg Connects
Location
New York
Business Area
Engineering and CTO
Ref #
10052783
Description & Requirements
Bloomberg Connects is a global digital engagement platform for arts and cultural organizations, delivering multimedia guides, interactive content, and multilingual experiences for hundreds of museums, galleries, gardens, and cultural institutions worldwide. As the organization scales its global footprint, it is establishing a dedicated internal IT function to support its people and operations independently of shared corporate infrastructure.
This is a newly created, sole-owner role: the first and only dedicated IT leader for Bloomberg Connects. You will define, stand up, and govern the organization's entire enterprise IT and access-management environment - identity, endpoints, networking, collaboration, security, and business continuity - and carry it through a funded transition from shared infrastructure to a standalone operating model. You will not build alone; you will architect the environment and direct a network of specialized agencies, MSPs, and subcontractors to implement it, holding them accountable to standards you set. This is an architect-and-governor role for an operator who is deeply technical and personally accountable, not a hands-on-keyboard implementer.
This position reports jointly to the Global Head of Bloomberg Connects and to senior leadership within Bloomberg Engineering.
What You'll Do
  • Define and execute the IT strategy and roadmap for Bloomberg Connects, building a scalable, secure, and cost-effective technology environment to support continued global growth.
  • Lead the transition from shared infrastructure to a standalone IT operating model, establishing core enterprise services including identity, networking, collaboration, endpoint management, and cloud platforms.
  • Oversee global IT operations as a single accountable owner - reliable end-user support, identity and access management, device lifecycle management, and service delivery - executed primarily through managed vendors and agencies you direct.
  • Develop and maintain a modern cybersecurity program: endpoint security, identity protection, incident response, disaster recovery, and business continuity.
  • Administer access, permissions, and governance for enterprise and platform software after it is selected and implemented by engineering; own the controls, not the build.
  • Evaluate, procure, and manage strategic vendors, MSPs, and subcontractors, setting standards and holding them accountable for scalable, efficient delivery.
  • Partner with engineering, security, legal, and compliance teams to ensure technology solutions meet operational, regulatory, and governance requirements.
  • Establish operating processes, key performance metrics, and documentation as first-class deliverables, ensuring institutional knowledge lives in durable systems and partner relationships rather than in any single person.
  • Serve as a trusted technology advisor to executive leadership, aligning IT investments with business priorities.
  • Drive continuous improvement - simplify operations, automate processes, and enhance the employee technology experience.

You'll Need to Have
  • 10+ years of IT experience, including 3+ years leading infrastructure, IT operations, or enterprise technology functions.
  • Proven experience designing and governing cloud-first enterprise IT environments - networking, identity management, endpoint management, and cybersecurity - including where delivery is executed through vendors and managed service providers.
  • Demonstrated success leading IT transformation, infrastructure modernization, and vendor management in a fast-paced, high-growth environment, personally accountable for outcomes without a large internal team.
  • Strong communication, leadership, and problem-solving skills, with the ability to influence both technical and non-technical stakeholders and to operate credibly across two reporting lines.
  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field, or equivalent professional experience.

We'd Love to See
  • Experience standing up IT functions in startup, scale-up, or rapidly evolving environments.
  • Familiarity with compliance frameworks such as SOC 2, ISO 27001, or GDPR.
  • Industry certifications such as CISSP, AWS, Microsoft, or CompTIA Security+.
  • Experience leveraging AI and automation to improve IT operations and service delivery.

Salary Range = 195,000 - 230,000 USD Annual + Benefits + Bonus
