Description:

**2nd Shift: 12:00PM - 9:00PM**


Position Summary: The Logistics/Transportation Planner is responsible for planning, coordinating, and optimizing the movement of freight across Blackrock Logistics' network. This role develops efficient routing and carrier schedules, balances cost against service requirements, and ensures shipments are picked up and delivered safely, on time, and in compliance with applicable federal and California transportation regulations. The position exists to maximize transportation efficiency and reliability while supporting customer commitments and controlling operational costs.


Key Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Plan and schedule daily inbound and outbound shipments to meet delivery commitments and service-level agreements
  • Optimize routing, load consolidation, and carrier selection to balance cost, capacity, and transit time
  • Coordinate with carriers, drivers, warehouse teams, and customers to confirm pickup and delivery appointments
  • Monitor shipments in transit and proactively resolve delays, exceptions, and capacity constraints
  • Tender loads to carriers, negotiate rates, and track on-time delivery and other performance metrics
  • Maintain accurate records in the transportation management system (TMS) and generate planning and status reports
  • Ensure shipment planning complies with DOT, FMCSA, and California hours-of-service and transportation regulations
  • Analyze transportation data and KPIs to identify cost-savings and process-improvement opportunities
  • Develop contingency plans to manage disruptions such as carrier shortages, weather, and demand spikes
Requirements:

Required Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent required
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in transportation planning, dispatch, or logistics coordination
  • Working knowledge of transportation management systems (TMS) and route-optimization tools
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office, particularly Excel
  • Familiarity with DOT, FMCSA, and California hours-of-service and transportation regulations
  • Strong organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a fast-paced, high-volume environment


Preferred Skills and Experience:

  • Associate's or bachelor's degree in logistics, supply chain management, business, or a related field
  • Experience with leading TMS platforms (e.g., Oracle OTM, MercuryGate, SAP TM)
  • APICS/ASCM certification (e.g., CLTD, CPIM) or equivalent
  • Experience in a high-volume third-party logistics (3PL) or distribution environment
  • Familiarity with LTL/FTL operations, freight brokerage, and carrier contract management
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish) communication skills
  • Experience using data-analysis or business-intelligence reporting tools
