The technology of Bitcoin is based on the Blockchain model, which ensures that the currency is anonymous, impossible to track, and secure. Bitcoin relies on a peer-to-peer network model and is derived by mining. The mining process involves computers solving complex cryptographic functions, which typically requires highly advanced computer systems or networks of computers.

To thrive as a Bitcoin Developer, you need strong programming skills (especially in C++, Python, or Rust), a solid understanding of blockchain technology, and experience with cryptography. Familiarity with Bitcoin Core, distributed systems, and relevant cryptographic libraries or protocols is typically required. Analytical thinking, attention to detail, and effective problem solving are crucial soft skills for innovating in this rapidly evolving field. These competencies ensure secure, reliable, and scalable contributions to Bitcoin's open-source ecosystem.

What are Bitcoin?

Bitcoin is a digital currency, also known as a cryptocurrency, that allows people to send and receive money over the internet without the need for a central authority like a bank. Transactions are verified by network nodes through cryptography and recorded on a public ledger called the blockchain. Job description

Block is one company built from many blocks, all united by the same purpose of economic empowerment. The blocks that form our foundational teams - People, Finance, Counsel, Hardware, Information Security, Platform Infrastructure Engineering, and more - provide support and guidance at the corporate level. They work across business groups and around the globe, spanning time zones and disciplines to develop inclusive People policies, forecast finances, give legal counsel, safeguard systems, nurture new initiatives, and more. Every challenge creates possibilities, and we need different perspectives to see them all. Bring yours to Block.

The Role

Block's mission is economic empowerment - and Bitcoin is central to that vision. Across Cash App, Square, Bitkey, and our broader ecosystem, we're making Bitcoin practical for everyday use: buying, selling, sending, receiving, paying over Lightning, and powering our growing international footprint through stablecoins. Open, accessible financial infrastructure changes lives - and we're looking for compliance leaders who believe that too.

The Business Product Compliance & Partnerships (BPCP) team embeds compliance into product design from day one - not as a gate, but as an accelerant. We partner with product and engineering to define what it takes to launch responsibly, identify the right controls, and provide oversight as products scale. Product Compliance Managers are trusted advisors and decision-makers on how we meet our regulatory obligations while moving fast.

The Bitcoin Compliance team sits within BPCP and owns how Block grows its digital asset products responsibly. We partner across Legal, Product, Engineering, and specialized compliance functions to deliver on regulatory commitments, unlock product launches, and build frameworks that scale. In this role, you'll directly shape how Block brings Bitcoin and stablecoin products to market - driving the compliance strategy that enables innovation and meets regulator expectations across multiple jurisdictions.

We're looking for a Product Compliance Manager to join us in scaling Block's Bitcoin and Digital Assets compliance program. Reporting to the Digital Assets Product Compliance Lead, you'll be the single point of coordination across our Bitcoin product suite - working at the intersection of product strategy, regulatory expertise, and technical design in one of the most dynamic corners of financial services. You'll shape how we launch new Bitcoin products, how we engage with regulators, and how we build compliance frameworks that grow with the technology.

This role is for someone passionate about digital assets who brings deep subject matter expertise in crypto compliance and thrives working across functions - partnering closely with legal and program leads across the company to deepen the playbook.

You Will
  • Serve as a primary compliance partner to the Bitcoin product team - embedded in product development from day one, helping shape what gets built and how
  • Drive compliance strategy across Block's Bitcoin and digital assets products, enabling new features to launch with confidence
  • Own Bitcoin-specific risk workstreams and deliver against active regulatory settlement milestones across multiple jurisdictions
  • Build and strengthen Block's Bitcoin compliance policy framework - closing gaps, raising standards, and staying ahead of regulatory expectations
  • Define what we need to detect and screen for across Bitcoin transactions and sanctions - translating regulatory obligations into clear requirements for engineering teams
  • Champion the use of AI and automation to scale our compliance program - identifying where these tools can sharpen detection, reduce manual lift, and make our processes more effective
  • Manage relationships with blockchain analytics vendors - evaluate performance, push for better coverage, and ensure our tooling and AI capabilities keeps pace with the ecosystem
  • Work directly with engineering teams on how screening, monitoring, automation and risk evaluation systems are designed and governed
  • Bring clarity and alignment to complex decisions that span Legal, Compliance Operations, Sanctions, Product, and Engineering
  • Be a trusted problem-solver - someone stakeholders come to because you find paths forward
You Have
  • 8+ years of experience in compliance, with meaningful time spent in digital asset or cryptocurrency compliance
  • Deep knowledge of Bank Secrecy Act/Anti-Money Laundering, sanctions regulations, and how they apply to blockchain-based products and transactions
  • Hands-on experience with on-chain analytics tools (Chainalysis, TRM Labs, Elliptic, or similar) - you've used them to identify, assess, and manage risk
  • Technical fluency - you can engage with engineering teams on how detection systems, data pipelines, and vendor integrations work
  • Experience as a day-to-day partner to product and engineering teams, not just a review function
  • A consultative mindset - you build trust by understanding what teams are trying to achieve and helping them get there compliantly
  • Experience supporting regulatory exams, audits, or remediation work with state or federal regulators
  • Genuine curiosity about digital assets - you follow this space because it matters to you
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent work experience
