Direct Counsel is seeking a Patent Prosecution Technical Advisor or Patent Agent (Biotech) to join a highly respected Am Law firm.

Location: Boston, MA
Position Type: Technical Advisor / Patent Agent
Experience Level: Ph.D.-level (entry to mid-level)

Direct Counsel is partnering with an Am Law 100 firm to identify a highly motivated Technical Advisor or Patent Agent to join its Patent Prosecution practice in Boston. This is a standout opportunity for candidates with advanced scientific training to work at the forefront of biotechnology innovation and collaborate with leading companies, scientists, and investors.

About the Practice:
The firmโ€™s patent group provides strategic counseling across the full innovation lifecycle, including patent procurement, portfolio management, licensing, enforcement, and IP diligence in complex business transactions.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage global patent portfolios and coordinate international prosecution strategies
  • Draft and respond to office actions and prosecute patent applications
  • Work closely with scientists and inventors to develop and protect new technologies
  • Analyze scientific literature, patents, and technical disclosures across biotech fields
  • Conduct patent landscape and freedom-to-operate analyses
  • Support IP diligence for venture financings, IPOs, and other capital markets transactions
  • Collaborate with investors and internal teams on high-impact strategic matters

Qualifications:

  • Ph.D. in Immunology, Molecular Biology, Computational Biology, Protein Design, Structural Biology, or related field
  • Strong scientific writing and analytical skills
  • Ability to translate complex technical concepts into clear legal/scientific language
  • Excellent organizational and communication skills
  • Collaborative mindset and ability to manage multiple priorities
  • USPTO registration preferred (not required)

Work Environment:

  • Hybrid schedule with approximately 60% in-office presence

Compensation:
