This is a direct hire, permanent placement position for a client of AdAstra Talent Advisors. This position is based in the Bay Area. More company details will be shared during an initial call.
About the Role
As Head of Talent Acquisition, you will help drive technical hiring across a fast-moving, deeply technical organization. We are looking for someone to own full-cycle recruiting across diverse skill sets spanning QARA, biology, mechanical engineering, ML, and hardware specialists, partnering closely with technical team members and leadership.
This role is ideal for someone who thrives in startup environments, enjoys personally driving searches end-to-end, and wants to help scale the recruiting function while remaining deeply hands-on in execution. We are looking to bring on an individual with exceptional search craft, strong technical recruiting judgment, high urgency, and a relentless drive to raise the talent bar.
The ideal candidate is energized by high standards, fast iteration, and operating in close partnership with deeply technical founders and leadership teams.
Responsibilities
Act as a strategic partner to technical teams to determine and fill critical hiring gaps with urgency
Personally drive full-cycle recruiting across technical and scientific functions
Run expert intakes and translate scientific and engineering needs into calibrated search strategies
Build proactive pipelines and talent maps across highly competitive technical talent markets
Source, engage, assess, and close exceptional talent across engineering, hardware, ML, biotech, and neuroscience
Partner with hiring teams to design high-signal candidate evaluation tactics and execute effective closing strategies
Lead candidate closes end-to-end, from initial outreach through acceptance
Help scale recruiting operations, processes, and infrastructure as the company grows
Partner closely with leadership on hiring prioritization, recruiting strategy, and talent calibration
Deliver an exceptional candidate experience while maintaining a consistently high hiring bar
Requirements
Strong track record sourcing, assessing, and closing high-caliber technical talent in startup or hard-tech environments
Experience recruiting for highly technical functions such as hardware, robotics, ML, biotech, neuroscience, engineering, or related domains
Strong academic track record and demonstrated intellectual rigor
Bachelorโs degree required
Ability to operate autonomously with high urgency and strong judgment
Comfort working directly with founders, executives, and technical leadership
Strong communication skills and ability to navigate ambiguity in fast-paced environments
Expertise in technical sourcing and recruiting technology
Preferred Experience
Experience at highly technical startups or top-tier technical organizations strongly preferred
Background in BCI/neurotech, biotech, hard-tech, or AI is a plus
Prior people leadership experience is helpful but not required

Logistical Requirements
Cash compensation of $150,000 โ $225,000 per year. Compensation is determined by role, level, location, and alignment with market data. Individual pay may vary based on job-related skills, education, experience, technical capabilities, and internal equity.
