M-F Days. 8AM-4:30PM

Summary:
The new Akron Children's Hospital ISD Internship program is interested in students who are pursuing a career in Biomedical Engineering (Healthcare Technology Management). This program will provide students with Biomedical Engineering work experience in key functional areas within the hospital such as clinical, imaging, surgical, clinics, quality, and supply chain. Our internship program is intended to provide an opportunity for interns to gain a better understanding of the various job opportunities available throughout Akron Children's Hospital and to build a pipeline of candidates who will join Akron Children's Hospital upon their college graduation.
As a Biomedical Engineering Intern on the Biomedical Engineering team, your work will be to further Akron Children's Hospital's
goal to become a leading children's healthcare organization. Additionally, you will work closely with seasoned Biomedical Engineering team members to provide medical equipment support, regulatory compliance, and input to various levels of the hospital including management and leadership. You will be assigned a mentor who will provide guidance and will assist you with your professional development.
Responsibilities:
1. You will work across engineering competencies such as preventative and corrective maintenance, data management, improving medical equipment clinical workflow and usage, and regulatory compliance, etc.
2. You will be provided an opportunity to gain biomedical engineering work experience in a key functional area within the hospital such as clinical, imaging, surgical, clinics, quality, and supply chain.
3. You will be assigned a blend of tasks aimed at providing the intern a well-rounded biomedical engineering experience while providing value to the organization such as the following:
a. Build dashboards/reports using Computerized Maintenance Management System Accruent TMS.
b. Work with users from various organizational levels to build requirements.
c. Gain experience with project management techniques and support.
4. Work with management, clinical staff, and ISD to translate operational requirements into desirable solutions.
5. Other duties as required.
Other information:
Technical Expertise:
1. Experience in engineering is preferred
2. Experience in analytical driven solution software is preferred
3. Proficiency in MS Office [Outlook, Excel, Word] or similar software is preferred
4. Strong skills on problem solving and communication (verbal or writing)
Education and Experience:
1. Education:
a. Cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher
b. Pursuing BS or MS degree in Biomedical Engineering, Clinical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Electrical Engineering Technologies, Engineering, or related fields
c. Strong communication skills, verbal and written, as well as listening and interviewing
d. Must have completed one year of classes prior to internship
e. Returning to at least one additional semester of school at end of internship
