Job description
The Department of Orthopaedic Surgery at the Perelman School of Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania seeks candidates for a Research Associate position in the Academic Support Staff. This appointment will be initially for one (1) year and continuation during that time period and renewal are based on satisfactory performance and availability of funding (limited to three (3) years). Expertise is required in the specific area of tissue engineering, biomaterials, mechanical testing, cartilage/meniscus, large animal models, and biomaterials synthesis. Applicants must have a Ph.D. degree in Biomedical Engineering (or equivalent) and postdoctoral experience in research fields related to regenerative medicine, tissue engineering, and/or translational animal models. Strong written and oral communication skills are essential, including a demonstrated ability to published research results in peer-reviewed journal articles.
Responsibilities may include scientific research using in vitro and in vivo models for a variety of cartilage and meniscus tissue engineering approaches, and more generally across the musculoskeletal system. The application is expected to submit and collaborate on grant proposals and journal publications, participate in the department's educational programs as assigned, and mentor and teach junior lab members.
The successful applicant will have an opportunity to work in an interdisciplinary environment with experts in engineering, biology, and medicine.
We are seeking candidates with research interests and expertise in musculoskeletal tissue engineering and translational animal models, with a specific focus on cartilage and/or meniscus.
