DescriptionThe Governor's Office of Land Use and Climate Innovation (LCI), is seeking to hire a student assistant, under the general direction of the Policy Innovation Team Lead. The student assistant will develop strategic guidance and take direction on a variety of assignments involving research, policy and data analysis, and contributions to climate policy in California. The student assistant will serve in a support role, providing research and analytical assistance to inform policy development.
Policy work will vary depending on the candidate and may include work on:
- Innovative building materials.
- Statewide goals framework.
- The 5th Climate Assessment.
- Catalyst Convenings.
- Communications and Outreach.
RequirementsConditions of EmploymentThis is a part-time, temporary, non-benefited, student position. Employment in all positions with University Enterprises, Inc. is dependent upon the mutual consent of University Enterprises, Inc. and the employee. This means that either University Enterprises, Inc. or the employee can, at any time, terminate the employment relationship at will, with or without cause.

PrerequisitesMust be a college student attending classes during the regular term (Fall, Spring and Winter, if applicable), at one of the accredited colleges or universities on our affiliation list. Students must be enrolled in at least: six-semester units or nine quarter units for undergraduate students; four-semester units or six quarter units for graduate students.
Students declared major must match the major(s) listed in the job posting.
Majors/Fields of StudyClimate Resilience Planning, Environmental Policy, or related field of study.
Work ScheduleFlexible workdays and work hours, Monday - Friday, between 8 AM - 5 PM. The final work schedule will be determined by the supervisor.
Additional Work ScheduleStudent Assistant and Graduate Assistant employees generally work up to 24 hours per workweek (Sunday - Saturday) during the academic year and up to 40 hours per workweek during breaks; (winter, spring, and summer).
Compensation$18.00 to 24.25 per hour.
Minimum Qualifications- Knowledge of climate resilience, green infrastructure, conservation, or bio-based building materials.
- Strong research, data analysis, writing, and communication skills.
- Ability to create clear reports, presentations, and public-facing materials.
- Experience supporting stakeholder engagement, outreach, or event coordination.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office/Google Workspace; Canva, GIS, or social media experience.
Preferred Qualifications- Individuals who are, or have been, a dependent child in foster care, a homeless youth or a formerly incarcerated youth as defined by Government Code section 18220 are encouraged to apply and will be given priority. Duties and Responsibilities- Policy & Planning Research/Data Analysis. Support in research and analysis related to bio-mass and bio-based building materials, conservation, green and living infrastructure, and climate resilience and adaptation.
- Oral and Written Correspondence. Develop clear visual and written summaries of findings for staff and a broad range of audiences. Support in the creation of memos, policy briefs, reports, online content, presentations, speeches, and other documents.
- Engagement Efforts: Support in engagement efforts for the 5th Climate Assessment and the Environmental Goals and Policy Report. Assist with planning efforts around the Catalyst Convenings and the Resilient California Summit by networking with agencies, partners, and community members.
- Communications: Work with the communications team and policy innovation team to develop interesting and engaging social media posts, blogs, and videos around the topics of bio-based building materials, the EGPR and other policy innovations.
