LOCATION 2855 Gramercy St. Houston, TX 77025

POSITION SUMMARY Contributes to the organization by working in the pre-operative area, PACU, and OR. Acts as the advocate for the patient while in these areas. The RN assures that quality care is administered.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES Policies Performs according to compliance and other policies and procedures. Must maintain current RN licensing. Failure to do so will result in RNs suspension, without pay, until such renewed license is on file with the facility. Must maintain current basic CPR and ACLS certification.

Procedures

Pre-operatively Conducts pre-op interview with patient via phone call. Provides patient and family teaching regarding upcoming surgery. Assess appropriate lab work and EKG, and acts on abnormal results.

On Day of Surgery Identifies patient and assess patients chart for completeness and establish basic interventions for patient care: Review patient history. Records base line. Assess patients physical status. Check medications ordered, administered, and effects noted. Establishes IV access. Informs surgeon or anesthesiologist of change in patient status. Provide emotional support for patient pre-operatively and post-operatively. Assist, as needed, patient to operative suite. Complete pre-operative records.

Post-operatively Performs according to established post-operative guidelines, policies, and procedures in-effect at the HEA Surgery Center. Communicates effectively, maintaining harmonious interpersonal relationships. Assists with monitoring in O.R. for local cases. General Responsibilities Assist as needed, the Director of Nursing in improving teaching program for staff members. Review all policies and procedures on a yearly basis. Attend continuing education courses as required by state. Provide a safe environment for treating surgical patients to prevent cross-infection. Assist in providing in-service for all staff members in the following areas: o Fire safety, with drills / Infection control / CPR / Medical education. Assist in cleaning and preparation of pre-/post-op room, supplies, and equipment. Assist in ordering supplies and equipment. Participate in on-going quality assurance programs. Communicate effectively, maintaining harmonious interpersonal relationships. Performs other duties as assigned by the Director of Nursing / Assistant Administrator. May be exposed to the following hazards: Communicable Diseases Chemicals Steam Pressurized Cylinders Sharp Objects Moving Parts of Equipment Bloodborne Pathogens Safety Equipment provided includes: Gloves Glasses Protective Gowns Hair Restraints Masks/Shoe Covers Fire Extinguisher Sharps Containers Bio-Hazard Disposal

COMPETENCIES

EDUCATION High School Diploma or GED, Associates or Bachelors degree in Nursing

CERTIFICATIONS & LICENSES Current RN license to practice in the state of Texas; re-licensure requirements must be maintained and on-file with the facility.

EXPERIENCE Preoperative/ASC experience with at least one-year expertise in a PACU or critical care-related field (preferred).
