Job description

Reporting to the Hands on Experience Manager, the Hands-On Experience Educator - Part Time is responsible for daily lab operations and providing a high quality and engaging experience in both the BioLab and ChallENGe Lab. This position will implement efficient and thorough protocols and procedures for all Bio Lab and ChallENGe Lab operations including maintaining consistent material preparation for activity stations, controlling lab capacity, and assisting with staff and volunteer training. The educator will collaborate with the Challenge Lab and Bio Lab Leads and other staff to develop original and engaging programming and execute them for a variety of ages and skill levels.
This position will support both BioLab and Challenge Lab and will be scheduled for spaces based on needs and coverage for events and activities.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Engage with museum visitors in the Bio Lab and ChallENGe Lab, providing assistance with the activity stations and provide information to enhance the visitor experience.
  • Monitor and control lab visitor entrance and capacity.
  • Manages station supply replenishment, cleaning, and maintenance.
  • Track daily attendance for school and public visitors in the labs.
  • Priority given to those with weekend availability and 10-2pm availability during weekdays.
  • Assist in cross-department workload to accomplish all short and long-term institutional program goals.

Supervisory Responsibility: No.
Knowledge/Skills/Experience:
  • Experience with and a passion for engaging youth in educational programs.
  • Familiarity with makerspace related tools and software a plus.
  • Individual must be highly organized and detail-oriented.
  • Outstanding interpersonal skills, positive attitude, collaborative spirit and ability to interface at all levels.
  • Excellent presentation and communication skills, both written and oral.
  • Punctual and professional with a commitment to promoting Museum values and mission.

Preferred
  • Bilingual in Spanish.
