Claris Vision’s team of leading physicians are dedicated to providing the best clinical care, utilizing leading technology, and ensuring an individualized experience and high-quality care plan for each patient.

The Ophthalmology Charge Poster Lead is responsible for overseeing and performing accurate, timely charge entry for ophthalmology and optometry services, including clinic visits, diagnostic testing, procedures, and surgeries. This role serves as the subject-matter expert for charge capture, validation, and reconciliation, ensuring all services rendered are properly recorded and billed. The Lead provides guidance, training, and quality oversight to charge posting staff and collaborates closely with clinical, coding, and billing teams to support optimal revenue cycle performance.

Key Responsibilities

Charge Entry & Validation

  • Leverages applicable technology to assist with compliant charge posting.
  • Accurately reviews and posts all flagged charges for ophthalmology and optometry services, including E/M visits, diagnostic tests, procedures, injections, and surgeries
  • Validate reviewed charges against provider documentation, encounter forms, operative reports, and schedules as indicated
  • Defer charges when additional information is required for correct coding completion.
  • Utilize all system reports to review and complete all missing charges.
  • Monitor deferred charges and escalate as needed.
  • Deferred charges should be completed in a timely manner.
  • Assist with billing questions and phone calls from internal providers and staff as well as external insurance companies and/or patients.

Lead & Oversight Responsibilities

  • Serve as the primary resource for charge posting staff, providing guidance on complex encounters and workflows
  • Monitor daily charge entry volume, accuracy, and timeliness to meet billing deadlines
  • Perform routine audits to ensure charge capture completeness and compliance
  • Assist with onboarding and training of new charge posting staff
  • Complete assigned daily charge reporting.
  • Develop, maintain, and update charge posting policies, procedures, and job aids

Revenue Cycle Collaboration

  • Work closely with coding, billing, and AR teams to resolve charge-related issues prior to claim submission
  • Identify missing, late, or incorrect charges and coordinate corrections with clinical teams
  • Support charge reconciliation between EHR, practice management system, and ASC/hospital interfaces
  • Assist with month-end close activities and charge lag reporting

Compliance & Process Improvement

  • Ensure adherence to federal and state regulations, payer rules, and internal compliance standards
  • Monitor charge capture trends and identify opportunities for process improvement
  • Participate in system upgrades, charge master updates, and special revenue cycle projects
  • Escalate recurring documentation or workflow issues impacting accurate charge capture

Required Qualifications

  • CPC, CPOC, or similar certification is required.
  • High school diploma or equivalent required; associate’s degree preferred
  • Minimum 3–5 years of medical charge posting experience, preferably in ophthalmology or surgical specialties
  • Strong working knowledge of CPT, HCPCS, ICD-10-CM, modifiers, and charge capture workflows
  • Proven attention to detail and ability to manage high-volume charge entry
  • Prior experience mentoring, training, or leading staff preferred
  • Must possess the physical, mental, and cognitive skills needed to complete essential tasks, including abilities such as learning, remembering, focusing, categorizing, and integrating information for comprehension, problem-solving, and timely decision-making.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with ophthalmology-specific services (e.g., OCT, visual fields, injections, global surgery periods)
  • Familiarity with ASC and hospital-based ophthalmology charge workflows
  • Experience with ophthalmology EHR and practice management systems (i.e imedicware, Medics Eliter, EyeMD or similar)
  • Knowledge of Medicare, Medicaid, and commercial payer billing requirements

Physical & Work Requirements

  • Ability to manage confidential patient and financial information
  • On-site, hybrid, or remote work environment (based on organizational needs)
