CONTEXT OF THE JOB:
The Joseph R. Biden, Jr. School of Public Policy and Administration provides undergraduate and graduate education, research, and public service across the broad fields of public policy and administration, and contributes to a range of interdisciplinary areas at UD. Named in honor of the 46th President of the United States and UD alumnus Joe Biden, the Biden School supports a full body of faculty, staff, and students in research, student support services, and finance and administration. The Biden School also hosts six institutes and research centers, including the Biden Institute, the Center for Applied Demography and Survey Research, the Center for Community Research and Service, the Center for Energy and Environmental Policy, the Center for Historic Architecture and Design, and the Institute for Public Administration. We are a place where passion becomes profession and tangible impact is core to our mission.
The Biden School Student Services team oversees student recruitment, academic advising and support, and degree clearance for undergraduate and graduate programs. Under the limited direction of the Senior Assistant Dean of Student Services, the Associate Director of Undergraduate Recruitment is a key member of the Biden School Student Services team, most notably responsible for creating, implementing, and overseeing the recruitment and admissions activities for associates, first-year and transfer bachelors, and Masters students.
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Strategize, implement, and manage all aspects of the Biden School's undergraduate and graduate student recruitment processes and yield activities.
• Work in collaboration with the communications team to develop a yearly communications plan for prospective undergraduate and graduate students through all stages of the recruitment and admission process.
• Develop annual talking points and presentations used by the Biden School administrators, faculty and staff.
• Collaborate with School leadership and UD Enrollment Management staff to yield a competitive freshmen/transfer class each year.
• Serve as liaison with UD online to enhance recruitment and yield for the School's online undergraduate and graduate programs.
• Coordinate Biden School faculty, staff and student representation for university-wide and college open houses and various other undergraduate and graduate recruitment events such as Blue and Golden Days, Decision Days, Transfer Student Open Houses, Destination Delaware, Distinguished Scholars and Graduate Open House. Provide content for event presentations
• Develop a "recruiting toolkit" to assist faculty, staff and alumni recruiting efforts
• Cultivate relationships and communicate effectively with prospective undergraduate and graduate students and their families, both in-person and virtually. Engage with families during campus visits.
• Recommend regular enhancements to the Biden School and UD prospective undergraduate and graduate student webpages.
• Lead and evaluate the development and implementation of data-driven strategies, programs and events to effectively recruit and yield undergraduate and graduate students for the college.
• Interpret complex data and run multifaceted reports related to the various stages of the application process including prospects, applicants, admits and deposits.
• Prepare regular recruiting reports for each academic level
• Cultivate connections with high school counselors, teachers, associate program, and community college advisors, and local government agencies to develop a robust pipeline of undergraduate and graduate students.
• Represent Biden at off-campus open houses, academic competitions, and other recruitment events.
• Visit high school classrooms, present information and recruit at informational fairs.
• Comply with University policies, procedures, and best practices regarding protecting data and following UD data governance rules.
• Work within the confines of an office budget.
• Perform other job-related duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:
• Bachelor's degree, Master's degree preferred, and five years of related experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Knowledge and understanding of higher education.
• Advanced working knowledge of academic recruitment, the challenges of yielding a class, retention issues, and what it takes for students to succeed and graduate.
• Experience with student services and academic advising preferred.
• A collegial individual with a positive attitude who values being part of a team.
• Ability to multitask; strong initiative, attention to detail, and ability to work effectively and independently and as a team member with a wide range of constituencies in a diverse community.
• Ability to present effectively to small and large groups and to work productively with a wide range of constituencies in a diverse community.
• Ability to gather data, analyze information, and prepare and present reports.
• Ability to develop, plan, and implement short- and long-range goals.
• Knowledge of event programming trends and effectiveness for student recruitment and admissions.
• Knowledge of student recruitment at the college level.
• Ability to supervise and mentor teams of undergraduates, including organizing and scheduling work assignments.
• Proficient computer skills, including the use of presentation, spreadsheet, and database software.
• Strong analytical, critical thinking, and communication skills.
Special Requirements:
• Includes some evening and weekend work.
• Some travel may be required. Valid driver's license required.
