Is $100 an hour too much for landscape work?

For a landscape worker or bid landscaping professional, $100 an hour is generally above average for entry-level or basic services, but experienced or specialized landscapers with skills in design, hardscaping, or operating advanced equipment may charge higher rates. Factors such as location, project complexity, and certifications influence pricing, with rates typically ranging from $25 to $75 per hour for standard services. High-end or commercial projects can command rates of $100 or more per hour.

How does a Bid Landscaping professional typically collaborate with sales and project management teams during the bidding process?

A Bid Landscaping professional works closely with sales teams to understand client requirements and help develop competitive bids for landscaping projects. They often coordinate with project managers to assess site conditions, estimate costs, and ensure accurate timelines. Effective collaboration ensures that proposals are not only profitable but also feasible in terms of resources and scheduling. This teamwork is critical for creating bids that win business while meeting client expectations and operational capabilities.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Bid Landscaper, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Bid Landscaper, you need strong expertise in landscape design, estimation, and project management, typically supported by relevant experience or certifications in horticulture or landscape architecture. Familiarity with bidding software, CAD design tools, and budgeting systems is important for preparing competitive and accurate proposals. Outstanding attention to detail, negotiation skills, and the ability to communicate clearly with clients and contractors set top candidates apart. These abilities are vital for securing profitable contracts, meeting client expectations, and ensuring project success in a competitive industry.

What is bid landscaping?

Bid landscaping is the process of analyzing and understanding the competitive environment when submitting bids for projects, particularly in industries like construction, government contracting, or procurement. It involves researching competitors, evaluating their strengths and weaknesses, and determining the likely range of bids that will be submitted. This strategic approach helps companies position their own bids more competitively to increase the chances of winning contracts while maintaining profitability.

As Director, Bid Proposal - Academia & Government, you'll take the lead in shaping how Clarivate wins complex, high-value business across the segment. We are seeking a high-potential leader who can stabilize a global team, improve execution, modernize processes, and become a stronger commercial partner to sales.
You'll oversee a diverse and globally distributed bid proposal group, bringing together multiple teams to deliver high-quality, compliant, and compelling proposals that align with Clarivate's growth objectives. Working closely with senior Sales, Solution, and executive stakeholders, you'll define the strategic direction of bid management for the segment and ensure proposal outcomes consistently support commercial success.
If you're energized by leading at scale, influencing outcomes, and building best-in-class bid capabilities in a fast-moving, mission-driven environment, this role gives you the platform to make a lasting impact.
About You - experience, education, skills, and accomplishments...
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent practical experience
  • 10+ years of overall relevant professional experience
  • 6+ years of bid management, proposal operations, sales operations, deal desk, consulting, project management, or related commercial support functions
  • 2+ years' experience leading teams directly or through cross-functional influence in fast-paced commercial environments
  • Hands-on experience with Salesforce and bid/proposal management platforms such as Loopio, Qvidian, or similar CRM and tender-writing/support solutions

It would be great if you also had...
  • Experience supporting or working within the Academia & Government landscape, with an understanding of its procurement environment, stakeholders, and relationships
  • A strong background partnering with and supporting Sales teams throughout the deal lifecycle
  • Exposure to Lean methodologies or continuous improvement practices to optimize bid and proposal processes
  • A demonstrated drive to lead transformational change, with the ability to modernize ways of working and scale best practices across teams

What will you be doing in this role?...
  • Lead a global Bid Proposal team supporting complex RFPs, RFIs, RFQs, and tenders across Clarivate's Academia & Government segment
  • Partner closely with Sales leadership to evaluate opportunities, establish bid qualification criteria, and drive disciplined bid/no-bid decision making
  • Ensure team capacity is focused on the highest-value opportunities by prioritizing strategic bids over low-probability or administrative requests
  • Oversee the development of high-quality, compliant, and compelling proposals that align customer requirements with Clarivate's commercial objectives
  • Coordinate cross-functional contributions from Sales, Product, Pricing, Legal, Security, Finance, Implementation, and Solution teams to ensure timely and effective submissions
  • Identify workflow bottlenecks and improve turnaround times across the proposal lifecycle
  • Build scalable processes, governance, and best practices that improve consistency, quality, and efficiency across a global team
  • Oversee proposal content management strategies, including reusable content libraries, tools, and automation opportunities that improve speed and response quality
  • Track and analyze key performance metrics including win rates, turnaround times, workload capacity, and stakeholder satisfaction to drive continuous improvement
  • Partner with senior leaders on large, strategic opportunities that require executive visibility and coordination
  • Lead, coach, and develop a high-performing global team while creating clear accountability and growth opportunities
  • Drive operational transformation by modernizing tools, processes, and ways of working to scale the function as the business grows
