What is bid landscaping?

Bid landscaping is the process of analyzing and understanding the competitive environment when submitting bids for projects, particularly in industries like construction, government contracting, or procurement.  Key Responsibilities
  • Review bid invitations, plans, specifications, addenda, scopes of work, and related documents to understand project requirements.
  • Perform quantity takeoffs for landscape, hardscape, irrigation, drainage, site furnishings, planting, seeding, sod, mulch, soil, and related work.
  • Assist with labor, material, equipment, subcontractor, and vendor pricing for bid-build landscape construction projects.

  • Compare proposals for scope completeness, exclusions, pricing accuracy, and compliance with project requirements.
  • Prepare bid worksheets, estimate summaries, proposals, alternates, unit prices, and clarifications as directed by senior estimating staff.
  • Maintain organized bid files, including drawings, specifications, addenda, quotes, takeoffs, and final submissions.
  • Attend pre-bid meetings, site walks, and internal bid reviews as needed.
  • Coordinate with project managers and operations teams to support a smooth project hand off after award.
  • Track bid results, update estimating databases, and maintain historical cost information.
  • Identify potential risks, scope gaps, schedule concerns, access constraints, and constructability issues during the estimating process.
  • Support continuous improvement of estimating templates, production rates, vendor lists, and bid processes.
 Qualifications
  • Associate or bachelor’s degree in construction management, landscape architecture, horticulture, civil engineering, business, or a related field preferred.
  • 1–2 years of experience in estimating, construction, landscaping, civil site work, or a related field preferred.

  • Experience with takeoff or estimating software such as Bluebeam, PlanSwift, ProEst, B2W, HCSS, On Screen Takeoff, Aspire, or similar platforms is a plus.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to work professionally with vendors, subcontractors, clients, and internal teams.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to manage multiple bids with competing deadlines.
  • Valid driver’s license and ability to attend site visits and pre-bid meetings as needed.
 Preferred Characteristics
  • Detail-oriented and committed to accuracy.
  • Curious, coachable, and willing to learn landscape construction estimating practices.
  • Comfortable asking questions and quickly tracking down information.
  • Able to work independently while collaborating with senior estimators and project teams.
  • Calm and focused under bid deadlines.
  • Interested in landscape construction, site development, and bid-build project delivery.
 Work Environment

This position is primarily office-based, with occasional travel to project sites, pre-bid meetings, vendor locations, and client meetings. Extended hours may be required during peak bidding periods or to meet bid deadlines.
