Summary:
The BI Developer will apply proven communication, analytical, and problem-solving skills to help identify, plan, and implement strategic dashboards that drive business goals and results. Success will be measured through demonstrating talent at making data understandable and will be accomplished by utilizing available tools to access and analyze data sets that present analytical findings through reports, dashboards, graphs, charts, and maps that provide stakeholders with detailed intelligence about the state of the business.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities:
  • Develops end-to-end new reports and dashboards and modifies existing reports and dashboards, utilizing Microsoft Reporting Services, Power BI, and others.
  • Identifies the most impactful layout and presentation of key metrics and translates that vision into easy-to-use self-service reports or dashboards.
  • Serves as subject matter expert for BI solutions and capabilities.
  • Provides analytics, business intelligence, and data visualization for data-driven decision-making.
  • Provides analytic and data consultation to other business areas, leadership, or external customers.
  • Investigates business issues and determine the best way to develop appropriate diagnostic and/or tracking data that will translate business requirements into usable decision-support tools.
  • Designs, constructs, and maintains data views and/or data models.
  • Supports BI solutions by monitoring and tuning queries and investigating data integrity.
  • Writes data requirements for data warehouse and ETL processes.
  • Establishes and continually expands/enhances knowledge of data warehouses, BI and enterprise applications, data, queries/programming, and organizational structure.
  • Produces standard reports according to calendar; ensures accuracy and timeliness of output and deliverables for assigned functional areas.
  • Ensures the integrity and security of enterprise data on host computers, databases, and data transfers by business needs and industry best practices regarding privacy, security, and compliance.
  • Conducts research on emerging products, services, and analytic tools in support of systems and development efforts.
  • Develops, documents, and maintains policies, procedures, and associated training plans for dashboard administration and appropriate use.
  • Provides guidance and serves as an escalation to the Help Desk.
  • Performs research and analysis in the development of program and/or project activities.
  • Performs all other duties as assigned.

Minimum Skills and Qualifications:
  • A high school diploma or equivalent is required; Bachelors' degree in related field is preferred.
  • Five or more years' experience; or combination of education, experience, and equivalent background is required.
  • Hands-on experience developing/maintaining strategic reports and dashboards.
  • A highly qualified candidate would be familiar with using MS Analysis Services, Reporting Services, Excel (Pivot Tables), Power BI, and other related business intelligence software.
  • Ideal candidates combine business acumen with technical skills to produce data visualizations that facilitate business decisions.
  • Experience with relational databases and knowledge of query tools and statistical software is required.
  • Full project management and development life cycle experience.
  • Experience with data processing flowcharting techniques and the ability to manipulate large sets of data.
  • Strong analytical, organizational, presentation, and problem-solving skills.
  • Preference will be given to candidates who provide sample data visualizations.
  • Experience documenting and maintaining configuration and process information with the ability to translate business goals into actionable BI use cases.
  • Knowledge of applicable data privacy practices and laws.
  • Some after-hours and weekend on-call availability in support of BI systems.
  • Reliable transportation and freedom to travel overnight a few times per year for training and related meetings with stakeholders.
  • Must have excellent communication skills both verbal and written, and interpersonal, time management, multi-tasking, and attention to detail skills.
