Job Description

Department:ย Power Generation Operations

Job Status:ย Full-Time

FLSA Status:ย Salary, Non-Exempt

Reports To:ย Field Service Supervisor

Location: Multiple States within the U.S.ย ย 

Amount of Travel Required: >95%

Work Schedule:

  • Rotational: 2 weeks on 1 week off
  • Thursday to Wednesday shift (additional travel 1-2 days before and after rotation)

AIP Level: 7ย 

POSITION SUMMARY:ย The Field Service Technician will communicate closely with the Field Service Supervisor, as it relates to the accomplishment of directives, objectives, and the communication of the status of ongoing affairs. The Field Service Technician will also work closely with other production and service personnel, coordinating with them on various aspects of customer service requirements.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: (The following duties and responsibilities are all essential job functions, as defined by the ADA, except for those that begin with the word "may.")

  • Responsible for troubleshooting, maintenance, and repair on multiple makes of generators with minimal guidance.
  • Diagnose, repair, adjust, and modify all components of the generator, engine, and switch gear with minimal guidance.
  • Positive interface with service writers, foreman, parts department, and customers
  • Keep paperwork updated and handed in upon completion.
  • Meet requirements for both company and customer certifications / Safety.
  • Perform administrative duties as related to role.
  • Basic Knowledge of natural gas engines, turbines, electrical switch gear, and automatic transfer switches required.
  • Perform routine maintenance and daily tasks on packages in your AOR.
  • Observe and listen to turbine in operation to determine malfunction and to plan work procedures.
  • Meet budgeted labor hours for each job as outlined.
  • Work with Service Manager assuring accuracy and timeliness on each job.
  • Drive to customer locations to diagnose and repair equipment with minimal guidance.
  • Use computers or phone applications for web-based training and work order system.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned to assist with successful operations and business continuity.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS

  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without the need for sponsorship.
  • Must be at least 18 years of age or older.
  • Successfully passes all applicable general pre-employment testing including but not limited to: background check, pre-employment drug screening, pre-employment fit tests, pre-employment aptitude and/or competency assessment(s).
  • Daily overtime required and in person, predictable attendance.
  • Valid U.S. Driverโ€™s License required. Most employment is contingent upon meeting company driving standards, including 3 year U.S. driving history and an acceptable Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) in accordance with Company policy.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE LEVEL

Required:

  • U.S. High School Diploma or GED.
  • 2 years medium voltage electrical experience and/or instrumentation experience.
  • 2 years of experience with diesel and/or natural gas engines, generators, and automatic transfer switches
  • 12 months of previous oilfield experience
  • Detailed knowledge of the following:
    • EPA (Environmental Protection Agency), DOT (Department of Transportation), RRC (Railroad Commission), OHSA (Occupational Safety and Health Association), NEC (National Electrical Code), AGA (American Gas Association), API (American Petroleum Institute) and GPA (Gas Processing Association)

Preferred:

  • Technical College Training.
  • Associate degree in electrical technology or related field.
  • Protection Relay Experience/ Certifications.
  • Certified journeyman electrician/ Master Electrician.
  • Gas Turbine or Aircraft Engine Services (A&P License).
  • MV experience.
  • Mechanical and electrical knowledge.

QUALIFICATIONS, SKILLS, COMPETENCIES, AND ABILITIES

  • Ability to read, write, and comprehend intermediate English. ย 
  • Basic computer skills.ย 
  • Ability to read electrical/controls drawings and schematics is a plus.
  • Ability to operate testing equipment (Megger, Multimeter/Process Meter, Amp probe, High Pot, Test Unit, etc.) is a plus.
  • Ability to attend, participate, and successfully complete the scheduled New Hire Safety training, including but not limited to H2S, Powered Industrial, and basic First Aid and CPR training.
  • Attends and successfully completes annual safety recertification training.
  • Ability to work a minimum of 15-hour shifts for fourteen consecutive days.
  • Ability to work within a team concept to successfully complete assigned tasks.
  • Ability to troubleshoot and resolve electrical systems issues, instrumentation issues, controls issues, or mechanical issues.
  • Ability to take instruction well and interact with other employees in a positive manner within the framework of assigned work groups.
  • Intermediate working knowledge of Microsoft office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams, Outlook)
  • Fully knowledgeable, compliant and takes initiative to promote and work with digital platforms including Active Learner, Paycom, KPA, and other company mandated systems. For new hires, ability to quickly learn company platforms.
  • Possess strong interpersonal skills including verbal and written communication skills.ย 
  • Capable of communicating in a technical manner with clients, addressing their specific needs and concerns.
  • Capability to work independently when required, demonstrating self-motivation and initiative.
  • Adaptability to changing priorities and tasks, demonstrating flexibility in response to evolving work demands.
  • Maintaining a professional demeanor in interactions with colleagues, clients, and other stakeholders.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS/WORK ENVIRONMENT

Daily required to walk, sit, climb, bend, reach and squat/kneel. Work environment includes exposure to hazardous materials, operating conditions, audio up to 85 dB and inclement weather, including typical and atypical outdoor elements and extreme cold and hot weather temperatures. Given these conditions, employees are required to wear company mandated and issued personal protective equipment (PPE) (fire retardant coveralls, safety hat, steel-toe boots, safety glasses, ear protection and safety gloves, may require high voltage gloves or impact gloves) and must strictly adhere to all safety policies. Individuals are regularly required to lift heavy objects; therefore, they must be able to lift 49 lbs. independently and 50-100 lbs. with a team lift.

Work hours may include early morning, late afternoon/evening hours, and weekends in combination depending on job demands.
