In the role of Health Principal, you will play a pivotal role in shaping the future of HDR's Health sector in Southern California contributing to a world-renowned healthcare design practice. We're seeking a dynamic leader with passion, expertise, and charisma to drive new business, oversee impactful health projects, and strengthen HDR's exceptional reputation throughout the region. 

The position will report directly to the Global Health Director and collaborate with the Southwest Region Health Director to lead business development and drive strategic growth for the Health market sector in Southern California. This position will be responsible for assuring that HDR's health brand is elevated and maintained through quality design, innovative planning, client service and thought leadership on health projects throughout Southern California.

Contribute to Business Development Strategy - in conjunction with Southwest Region Health Director, Health Client Development Director and local Health Principals:

  • Drive the development of business strategies for the health market sector by defining key priorities and identifying target clients in the Southern California.

  • Identify and develop strategic partnerships within or outside the health industry to support and achieve our strategic business initiatives.

  • Assist in defining and implementing health sector business development priorities

  • Participate in research, market and competitor trend analysis, predictive analytics, and network building.

  • Coordinate regularly with the Managing Principal and the Regional Health Director on BD, marketing, and practice growth efforts. Identify, qualify, and develop business leads. Develop effective capture plans to convert leads to wins. Coordinate, collaborate and cooperate with local leadership and leverage their roles and assistance to build teamwork and maximize effectiveness and results of all BD and marketing efforts.

Premarketing and Pursuits Processes

  • Assist and coach pursuit teams in developing effective client capture plans, pre-marketing strategies and building relationships with target clients. Assist, guide and coach pursuit teams in proposal and interview preparation, whenever appropriate.

  • Participate/support reviews for GNG, fee strategies and alternative delivery projects.

  • Lead and oversee the analysis of RFQs and RFP's and the development of written proposal responses. Develop, craft, and write proposals and oversee the preparation and timely completion of qualifications packages and proposals with all contributing parties both inside and outside the firm.

  • Lead the development of interview presentation strategies, messaging, and all team preparations for winning presentations and interviews.

Nurture Client Relationships - Develop and nurture strong relationships with key clients which may include individual facilities, systems and institutions throughout their region and local offices.

Represent and Advance the Firm / Implement Health Initiatives - Increase the awareness and understanding within the community of the firm's health practice on a local, regional, and national basis - in conjunction with Health Strategic Growth Director:

  • Assist with strategy for annual market sector communications planning, to elevate HDR's brand and thought leadership throughout the health market.

  • Assist with strategy and content for external marketing communications, including special initiatives, special events, conference speaking abstracts, media relationships, social media, design awards, and website.

  • Assist with strategy and content for internal marketing communications, including annual meetings, regional BD calls/meetings, and knowledge sharing.

  • Prepare articles, author white papers, and participate in periodical interviews on Healthcare topics (Healthcare Design, Medical Construction and Design, Health Facilities Management, among others)

Drive Sector Growth - in conjunction with local Health Principals and Southwest Region Health Director:

  • When and where appropriate, actively participate in identifying and evaluating new talent, provide input on the evaluation and assessment of our heath practice.

  • Mentor and coach existing employees in our current service delivery approach to increase performance and effectiveness of our overall practice.

  • Regional Teamwork - Work and collaborate with the other health leaders, marketing staff, and design professionals throughout the firm and particularly within the region to develop relationships and win work.

 Project Delivery Responsibilities:

  • Drive quality design, innovative planning, client service and thought leadership on health projects throughout the Northeast Region.

  • When and where appropriate, actively lead projects as Principal-in-Charge or Healthcare Planning Principal in an appropriate capacity to advise client, and otherwise add value to our service, the project, and the team.

  • When and where appropriate, provide insights and guidance to our healthcare teams on our work on health projects.

  • Experience with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Project)
  • Extensive knowledge and experience within the local and regional market
  • Strong team leadership, mentoring, motivational/organizational and people skills
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Must be willing to travel
