About Us

Walters is the premier environmental services provider in the Twin Cities metropolitan area providing waste and recycling collection to the public and private sectors since 1988.We are the largest family owned and operated waste and recycling provider in Minnesota providing over 100,000 services each week with a fleet fueled by both diesel and compressed natural gas (CNG).

Job Summary

Our Swing Drivers are responsible for the collection and loading of residential waste, as well as the transporting of this waste by a side loader or rear-loader truck to the dumping facility/site. The position may require physical exertions such as repetitive lifting, pushing, and pulling receptacles that weigh from 50 to 75 pounds as part of their daily routine. This position may involve mounting and dismounting the truck multiple times every shift on some routes. In addition to these duties, pre and post trip vehicle inspection is required. Required work hours may be up to the legal limits allowed and may require weekend and/or holiday work.

This position is Safety Sensitive. It requires drug and alcohol testing in compliance with 49 CFR part 382,this includes marijuana. This position also requires an active DOT health card. To get a DOT health card, candidates must have a valid MinnesotaDriversLicense.

Primary Job Duties

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform the essential duties satisfactorily. Other minor duties may be assigned and may vary by location.

  • Must have safe driving records,comply withall local, state, and federal transportation regulations and with company policy. Drivers are expected toalways communicate professionally with customers and dispatchers. This includes receiving complaints about schedules and quality of service. Our Drivers must make note of andreport onany such complaints and respond in a courteous and respectful manner. Swing Driver routes will vary as this position typicallycoversdrivers that are on vacation or leave as well as anyadditionalpickups added for the day. Drivers must be able to read and understand amap;complete daily driver logs as well as pre and posttrip truck inspections. This position will require you to work in all weather extremes including extreme hot or cold,wetor dry conditions.
  • The operations manager appoints the Swing Person to his/her position. He/she is fully accountable and reports to the operations manager. He/she is fully qualified to fulfill anyroutewhether residential or recycling, as assigned by the operations manager.
  • Isrequiredtooperateequipmentsuch asside load, rearloadand cart truck
  • It isrequiredto learn all routes and do them when regular drivers are not available.
  • Attimes itmay berequiredto help the residential units (example: fall compost).
  • It isrequiredto get along and work well with all company personnel.
  • It isrequiredto perform all tasks safely and follow all safety rules.

Education and Experience

  • At least 2 years ofpreviousexperienceoperatinga vehicle requiring a CDL (Commercial Driver's License).?
  • Must be at least 21 years of age or older
  • Legallyauthorizedto work in the United States
  • Must have a Class A or B CDL with airbrakes endorsement valid for the State of Minnesotais required tobe held and maintained at all times during employment.
  • Clean driving record.
  • High School Diploma or GED Equivalent

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability tolift upto 50lbsfrequentlyand up to 100lbsoccasionally, bending, twisting, repetitive motion, and sitting forlong periodsof time
  • Ability to pass a pre-employment drug screen, DOT health evaluation, and physical assessment.
  • This is a safety-sensitive position subject to drug testing requirements in compliance with 49 CFR Part 382.
