Job description

About Shabby Fabrics: Since 2005, Shabby Fabrics has been spreading joy and creativity around the world! We're a global leader in the quilting industry, loved for our innovative designs, original artwork, and top-notch quality. Nestled in beautiful Post Falls, Idaho, our mission is simple: inspire creativity and brighten lives.
We're a team that values positivity, teamwork, and a drama-free workplace (yes, really!). Every person here is valued, and we work hard to make Shabby Fabrics a place people love to come to every day.
About the Role
We're looking for an experienced Quilter to join our sewing team.
This role focuses on precision piecing and patchwork; cutting and sewing fabric pieces together to create beautifully accurate quilt tops and sample projects. These samples are used in our kits, patterns, and video content seen by customers around the world.
You'll work with high-quality cotton fabrics and sew on Bernina sewing machines in a collaborative environment of talented makers. As part of an industry-leading company, you'll help create precisely pieced quilts in a fun, dynamic, and fast-paced setting.
Important: This is not an entry-level sewing position. Applicants must have substantial hands-on experience making quilts and completing patchwork/quilt piecing projects. General sewing or garment sewing experience alone is not sufficient for this role.
Note: This position focuses on piecing (patchwork) and does not involve long-arm quilting.
Why You'll Love This Role:
• Work with premium fabrics and top-of-the-line Bernina machines
• Be part of a collaborative, creative sewing room environment
• Contribute to projects seen by quilters around the world
• Join a positive, team-oriented company that values craftsmanship and creativity
Responsibilities Include:
• Precisely cutting fabric using rotary cutters and rulers
• Sewing quilt tops and sample projects with accuracy, consistency, and efficiency
• Following patterns carefully and identifying and correcting errors (pattern testing)
• Creating quilts, wall hangings, table runners, pillows, and other sewing projects
• Managing time-sensitive projects and meeting deadlines
• Staying focused on individual work while working in a shared, multi-person sewing space
• Pivoting between projects of varying sizes and priorities, including pausing one project to begin another as needed
• Maintaining high standards of craftsmanship while working at an efficient pace
Qualifications:
• Extensive experience in quilt piecing / patchwork (required)
• Strong understanding of accurate seam allowances and precision sewing
• Exceptional attention to detail-accuracy is critical in this role
• Ability to confidently follow written patterns and instructions
• Experience with rotary cutting tools, rulers, and sewing machines
• Creative mindset, strong aptitude for color and layout, and problem-solving ability
• Ability to work independently while contributing to a team environment
• Strong work ethic, positive attitude, and willingness to ask questions rather than guess
• Ability to stay focused and productive in a multi-person workspace
Bonus Skills (Not Required):
• Appliqué or machine embroidery experience
Compensation and Benefits:
• Competitive pay
• Medical, Dental, and Vision Insurance (waiting periods apply)
• Paid Time Off and paid breaks
• 401(k) with 100% company match up to 4%
• Select paid holidays (after one year of employment)
• 30% employee discount on regular-priced products after 90 days
• Referral program
• Employee Assistance Program
Additional Requirements:
• Must be at least 18 years old
• Must have reliable transportation
• Must not smoke (fabric absorbs odors)
Physical Requirements:
• Ability to stand, sit and/or walk for extended periods
• Ability to distinguish between colors
