Job description

About the Company

Benchmark Health is a public benefit corporation committed to helping individuals navigate the complex behavioral health landscape by connecting them to the right care at the right time, whether it be therapy, psychiatry, peer support, and/or other resources. Our unique model leverages technology and human relationships to prioritize clinical quality and patient experience in order to make effective mental healthcare more accessible to all. By partnering with all stakeholders in the mental health space, we are building a scalable solution that aims to transform the mental health journey for millions.

About the Role

The Clinical Director will lead the launch, implementation, and expansion of Benchmark Healthโ€™s Universal Triage program across partner primary care practices and health systems. This leader will play a pivotal role in implementing a novel approach to behavioral health integration and Coordinated Care.

In the early stages, the Director will be actively involved in clinical operations, managing a patient panel to model best practices in measurement-based care, and hiring care managers. As the program grows, this leadership role will evolve to focus on scaling the model overseeing Behavioral Health Care Managers who deliver behavioral health interventions and coordinated care.

In partnership with executive leadership and business development teams, this role will also contribute to expanding Benchmark Healthโ€™s partnerships across California and advancing the companyโ€™s mission to bring integrated behavioral healthcare to more communities.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the launch and operational implementation of Benchmark Healthโ€™s Universal Triage program in California

  • Serve as both a strategic leader and hands-on practitioner during early phases providing direct patient care, designing workflows, and modeling best practices for the care team.

  • Develop and execute a scalable model for universal triage across partner primary care sites, including staffing, training, supervision, and quality monitoring.

  • Hire, train, and mentor a multidisciplinary team of Behavioral Health Care Managers to deliver measurement-driven behavioral health services.

  • Work with the clinical team to establish clinical protocols, documentation standards, and operational procedures to support PCP engagement and optimize for clinical outcomes.

  • Partner with the business development and executive teams to support strategic growth opportunities, cultivate relationships with California healthcare organizations, and promote adoption of the Universal Triage model.

  • Serve as a subject matter expert and thought leader in Universal Triage, supporting internal education, external presentations, and community engagement.

Qualifications

  • Masterโ€™s in Social Work, Mental Health Counseling, or Marriage and Family Therapy (last only if we want to include them)

  • Active independent clinical licensure in California (LICSW, LCSW, LMFT, LPCC, or equivalent).

  • 7+ years of progressive experience in behavioral health, including at least 3 years in a leadership or program management capacity.

  • Demonstrated expertise in implementing and managing the Collaborative Care model at scale, including experience leading multidisciplinary teams and managing industry-standard patient panels.

  • Proven experience launching or expanding behavioral health integration programs in medical or primary care settings.

  • Strong understanding of California behavioral health regulations, payer requirements, and integrated care reimbursement models.

  • Experience using population health data and measurement-based tools to drive clinical and operational performance.

  • Prior experience in startup, growth-stage, or innovation-oriented healthcare organizations preferred.

Required Skills

  • Ability to inspire, mentor, and develop high-performing clinical teams; strong track record of coaching clinicians and unlicensed staff.

  • Skilled in designing workflows, standard operating procedures, and scalable care delivery models.

  • Capable of translating vision into executable plans; comfortable balancing long-term strategy with day-to-day implementation.

  • Deep understanding of evidence-based behavioral interventions, safety risk assessments, and collaborative care workflows.

  • Exceptional ability to build trust and collaborate across clinical, operational, and business functions.

  • Comfortable operating in a fast-paced, evolving environment and leading through change.

  • Proficient in EHR systems, population health platforms, and digital communication tools.
