Job description

Building Maintenance Technician
Position Summary
The Building Maintenance Technician is responsible for maintaining the facility, grounds, and building systems to provide a safe, clean, functional, and well-maintained work environment. This position performs routine inspections, preventive maintenance, repairs, and general facility upkeep. The Building Maintenance Technician responds to maintenance requests, identifies potential issues before they become larger problems, and works with internal departments and outside contractors as needed.
Duties and Responsibilities
  • Perform routine building inspections and identify needed repairs or maintenance.
  • Complete general repairs involving doors, walls, ceilings, floors, windows, fixtures, and other building components.
  • Perform minor plumbing repairs, including faucets, sinks, toilets, drains, and water lines.
  • Perform basic electrical repairs such as replacing light fixtures, switches, outlets, and bulbs within the employee's qualifications and company requirements.
  • Assist with basic HVAC troubleshooting, filter changes, and routine maintenance.
  • Perform painting, drywall repair, patching, caulking, and other general building repairs.
  • Maintain interior and exterior areas of the facility.
  • Perform preventive maintenance according to established schedules.
  • Respond to building maintenance requests and complete work in a timely manner.
  • Inspect and maintain emergency exits, doors, lighting, and other facility safety items.
  • Assist with snow and ice removal, grounds maintenance, and seasonal facility needs as required.
  • Assemble, install, move, or repair office furniture, shelving, fixtures, and other facility equipment.
  • Maintain maintenance tools, equipment, parts, and supplies in an organized and safe condition.
  • Communicate building concerns, repair needs, and potential safety hazards to management.
  • Coordinate with outside contractors and vendors when specialized repairs or services are required.
  • Maintain accurate records of completed maintenance and preventive maintenance activities.
  • Follow all company safety procedures, OSHA requirements, and applicable facility policies.
  • Follow Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs), food safety requirements, and sanitation procedures when working in production or food-processing areas.
  • Maintain clean and orderly work areas during and after completing repairs.
  • Assist with facility improvement projects as assigned.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications
  • High school diploma or GED preferred.
  • Previous building, facility, apartment, commercial, industrial, or general maintenance experience preferred.
  • Basic knowledge of plumbing, electrical, carpentry, HVAC, painting, and general building repair.
  • Ability to safely operate hand tools, power tools, ladders, and maintenance equipment.
  • Ability to troubleshoot problems and determine appropriate repair solutions.
  • Strong attention to safety and detail.
  • Ability to work independently and prioritize multiple maintenance requests.
  • Good communication and organizational skills.
  • Ability to work with employees, contractors, vendors, and management professionally.
  • Basic computer skills for entering work orders or maintenance documentation preferred.

Physical Requirements
  • Ability to stand, walk, bend, kneel, climb, reach, and work in various positions for extended periods.
  • Ability to safely climb ladders and work at appropriate heights.
  • Ability to lift and move up to 50 pounds.
  • Ability to work indoors and outdoors in varying temperatures and weather conditions.
  • Ability to work around manufacturing equipment and in active facility environments.
  • Must be able to use required personal protective equipment (PPE).

Preferred Experience
Experience performing building maintenance in a manufacturing or food-processing facility is preferred. Familiarity with GMP, food safety, preventive maintenance, work-order systems, and OSHA safety practices is a plus.
