Job description

The Quality Assurance Lab Technician is responsible for conducting standardized qualitative and quantitative tests to determine physical or chemical properties of food products to ensure compliance with company, customer, or government quality standards. This position also manages the process of product non-conformities and accurate documentation.

Duties & Responsibilities:  

  • Verifies all batch samples are received and conducts analytical testing of finished goods to ensure all product specifications are met.  Tests include but are not limited to:  pH, viscosity, color, flavor, aw, brix and drain weight.
  • Records test results in a consistent and accurate manner.
  • Isolates non-conforming product in accordance with established procedures.
  • Maintains product shelf life samples.
  • Operates laboratory equipment and instruments in accordance with established procedures.   To include but are not limited to:   Viscometer, Refractometer, pH Meters, Hunter Colorimeter and Aqualab CX2.
  • Calibrates laboratory equipment at specified frequencies.
  • Responsible for all aspects of safety, continuous improvement/efficiency improvement and adhering to policies and procedures.
  • Performs other duties as requested or assigned.

Required Qualifications:

  • Associate’s degree in food science or related field; Bachelor’s degree is preferred.   
  • 1 year of equivalent experience; food manufacturing experience preferred.
  • Better Processing Control School preferred.
  • Knowledge of Good Laboratory Practices. Knowledge of Aseptic microbiological techniques preferred.
