A HVAC and Refrigeration Mechanic A Tech will apply technical knowledge of advance HVAC theory and practice as required to adjust, align, modify, rework and repair industrial plant equipment and systems, such as but not limited to, those in VFD drives, VAV pneumatic / automatic boxes, motor bearing replacement, sheaves and belt alignment and equipment of similar complexity and nature. Installs, tests and maintains plant HVAC systems and equipment.
*1st Shift - 6:00 AM - 2:30 PM - El Segundo, California. This position is onsite position.*
What you will do:
  • Performs complex servicing of installed HVAC (Heating, Ventilation and Air Conditioning) and Infrastructure including: chillers, boilers, pumps, air compressors, fan coil units, Air Handling units, DX units, condensers, test chambers, refrigerated lab equipment, VAV boxes, valves, coils, cooling towers, piping wiring, control systems, thermostats, building automation systems, pneumatic systems, calibrate flows, ventilators, ventilation hood, flow benches, humidifiers, dehumidifiers, refrigerators, plumbing within unit, electrical from disconnect, other appurtenances and housekeeping in equipment and work areas.
  • Operate and perform routine and emergency repairs to same.
  • Interprets engineering drawings, engineering specifications, working drawings, control schematics, equipment manuals related to air conditioning systems and components parts.
  • Must have working knowledge of International Building codes and NEC as it relates to HVAC systems.
  • Provides recommendations regarding air conditioning systems, maintenance and repairs. maintains historical operating data as directed, makes material take off list and orders materials and parts.
  • Will use general computer skills to maintain records, time, order parts, process work orders and other related clerical functions.
  • Use knowledge of building automatic systems such as Delta Controls.
  • Perform all duties to totally complete assigned air conditioning and refrigeration maintenance mechanical tasks or projects, may perform incidental duties as required.

Qualifications You Must Have:
  • A High School Diploma or GED
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in HVAC or completion of technical school/ formal training.
  • Valid EPA 608 universal technician certification.

Qualifications We Prefer:
  • Excellent communication skills both verbal and written.
  • Ability to interpret schematics, blueprints, shop drawings and manufacturer's technical manuals.
  • Industry experience in building Automation and process controls.
  • Basic understanding of operation of VAV boxes and Belimo valves on a DDC control environment.
  • Strong time management and troubleshooting skills.
  • Willing to assist other trades on building emergencies.
  • Skilled in system replacement / installation and unit star-up.

Additional Details:
  • The hourly range for this role is $28.05 to $47.16. The hourly range provided is a good faith estimate representative of all experience levels. RTX considers several factors when extending an offer, including but not limited to, the role, function and associated responsibilities, a candidate's work experience, location, education/training, and key skills.

This position is part of a collective bargaining agreement. Wage and work place conditions, including shift times, are subject to this agreement. Individuals hired into this position will be represented by a union.

  • Onsite: Employees who are working in Onsite roles will work primarily onsite. This includes all production and maintenance employees, as they are essential to the development of our products.
