Behavioral Engineering information

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a behavioral engineer, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Behavioral Engineer, you need a solid background in behavioral science, psychology, data analysis, and often a relevant degree in these fields. Familiarity with A/B testing platforms, behavioral analytics tools, and programming languages like Python or R is typically required. Strong interpersonal communication, problem-solving, and creativity help translate behavioral insights into practical interventions. These skills are crucial for designing solutions that effectively influence user behavior and drive desired outcomes in various applications.

What is the difference between Behavioral Engineering vs Behavioral Analyst?

AspectBehavioral EngineeringBehavioral Analyst

Work EnvironmentDesigns and implements behavioral interventions across various settings, including schools, workplaces, and healthcareEvaluates and analyzes behavioral data to develop intervention plans, often working in clinical or educational settings
Employer & Industry UsageUsed by organizations aiming to modify behaviors through engineered solutions, often in behavioral health or organizational developmentEmployed by clinics, schools, or private practices to assess and treat behavioral issues

Behavioral Engineering focuses on designing systems and interventions to modify behavior proactively, while Behavioral Analysts assess and analyze behavior to develop targeted treatment plans. Both roles require similar credentials but differ in their approach—engineering versus analysis—serving complementary functions in behavioral change strategies.

How does a behavioral engineer typically collaborate with cross-functional teams to implement behavior change strategies?

Behavioral Engineers work closely with product managers, UX/UI designers, data analysts, and marketing teams to design and implement interventions that drive user behavior. They often participate in brainstorming sessions, share research insights, and help translate behavioral theories into practical solutions. Regular collaboration ensures that interventions are not only theoretically sound but also aligned with business goals and user needs. Feedback loops with these teams are crucial for refining strategies based on user data and outcomes.

What is behavioral engineering?

Behavioral engineering is the systematic application of behavioral science principles and techniques to influence people's actions, decisions, and habits. Professionals in this field design interventions, environments, or systems that encourage desired behaviors, often using insights from psychology, behavioral economics, and data analysis. This work can be applied in areas like health, education, workplace productivity, or technology to drive positive change and improve outcomes. The goal is to understand why people behave the way they do and to create solutions that make it easier for them to make beneficial choices.

Headquartered in Louisville, KY, we specialize in delivering high-quality design, engineering, and consulting services to clients in both the public and private sectors—including federal, municipal, and commercial markets.

Our team is driven by a collaborative spirit and a dedication to delivering smart, sustainable solutions. We’re seeking a skilled and motivated Structural Engineering Project Manager who is ready to lead complex design projects, mentor younger engineers, and be a trusted client liaison.

You will manage project schedules, budgets, and deliverables while collaborating closely with clients, architects, and internal team members. Your ability to communicate clearly, lead effectively, and balance multiple priorities will be key to ensuring successful outcomes across a wide range of building types and structural systems.

Job Responsibilities:
• Lead the planning, design, and delivery of structural engineering projects from start to finish.
• Manage project budgets, schedules, and resources.
• Prepare calculations, drawings, and specifications for various building systems (steel, concrete, wood, and masonry).
• Coordinate with internal and external design teams, including architects and MEP engineers.
• Oversee and mentor junior engineers and support staff.
• Review and approve structural plans, reports, and submittals.
• Conduct site visits and construction administration tasks as needed.
• Ensure all design work complies with relevant codes and client standards.
• Serve as the primary point of contact for clients and ensure consistent, clear communication throughout each project.
• Contribute to proposals, marketing efforts, and business development initiatives.

Minimum Qualifications:
• Bachelor’s degree in Civil or Structural Engineering (Master’s preferred).
• Professional Engineer (PE) license required; SE license a plus.
• 5+ years of experience in structural engineering with a focus on building design.
• Proven experience managing multi-discipline design projects.
• Strong technical skills in structural analysis and design software (e.g., RISA, RAM, ETABS, Revit).
• Familiarity with IBC, ASCE 7, ACI, AISC, and other relevant codes and standards.
• Excellent organizational, written, and verbal communication skills.
• Experience working with federal or municipal clients is a plus.
• Must be legally authorized to work in the U.S. and able to travel as needed.

Required Skills and Abilities:
• Strong leadership and team management capabilities.
• Client-focused mindset and ability to build lasting relationships.
• Detail-oriented and deadline-driven.
• Ability to multitask and manage several projects simultaneously.
• Commitment to high-quality work and continuous improvement.

• Set and work toward common goals.
• Communicate clearly and effectively.

• Provide value-added benefits.
• Exceed client expectations.
• Deliver services and products on time and within budget.

Integrity in Behavior
• Deal with clients and associates fairly.
• Practice honesty in all endeavors.
• Focus on a servant-leadership attitude.
