Respiratory Therapist - Per Diem, Day Shift

As aPer Diem Respiratory Therapist at Baystate Medical Center, you'll work alongside physicians, nurses, and an interdisciplinary team to evaluate, diagnose, and treat patients with respiratory and cardiopulmonary disorders.

This is an exciting opportunity to practice in a dynamic clinical environment caring foradult, pediatric, and neonatal patientswhile utilizing advanced respiratory care therapies and technologies.

What You'll Do

As a Respiratory Therapist, you will provide comprehensive respiratory and cardiopulmonary care, including:

  • Perform patient assessments, physical examinations, and interpretation of diagnostic data.
  • Independently conduct and collect diagnostic information, including pulmonary function testing, sleep studies, blood gas analysis, interventional diagnostics, and noninvasive and invasive procedures.
  • Provide respiratory therapies including medical gas, humidity, and aerosol therapy.
  • Manage artificial airways and provide airway clearance therapies.
  • Provide invasive and non-invasive mechanical ventilation.
  • Support vascular catheter insertion, management, and care.
  • Participate in Extracorporeal Life Support (ECLS) as applicable.
  • Evaluate patient responses to therapy and adjust treatments based on clinical assessment and laboratory results.
  • Make recommendations to physicians regarding patient therapy and participate in interdisciplinary care planning.
  • Perform oxygen rounds and titrate oxygen therapy as indicated.
  • Provide disease management for acute and chronic cardiopulmonary conditions.
  • Collaborate with the care team to support hemodynamic management.
  • Participate in discharge planning and case management.
  • Provide emergency, acute, critical, and post-acute respiratory care.
  • Respond to Rapid Response and Code Blue events and provide appropriate emergency respiratory care.
  • Assist with patient transport by land and air, as applicable.
  • Maintain and troubleshoot respiratory equipment, identify malfunctions, and coordinate maintenance and repair.
  • Follow established policies and procedures related to quality, safety, infection prevention, and environmental standards.
  • Precept and support new staff, Respiratory Therapy students, and Resident Nurse students as directed.
  • Maintain required AHA certifications and additional certifications based on the clinical service area.NRP certification is required for facilities with an Obstetrics Department.
  • Meet and maintain the clinical ladder requirements for aLevel II Respiratory Therapist.

Typically, a new hire can expect a starting salary somewhere in the lower part of the range. Actual salaries may vary by position and will be determined based on the candidate's relevant experience. No employee will be paid below the minimum of the range. Pay ranges are listed as hourly for non-exempt employees and based on assumed full time commitment for exempt employees.
