Position Description
Job Summary:
The Safety Manager will help to create, develop, and implement company programs and policies to prevent workplace injuries and illnesses as well as ensure compliance with company/government/industry regulations and standards. It will be the priority of this position to work towards the company's goal to achieve Best in Class Status, while contributing to the continuous overall safety culture of Achieving Zero (zero injuries, zero accidents).
Essential Functions:
  1. Integrity. Ensure company, industry and regulatory policies are followed and adhered to. Work with management to identify gaps in compliance and implement solutions.
  2. Protect family and friends. Support members in nurturing the Peckham culture of keeping safety first and foremost in people's minds.
  3. Dedicated. Lead and conduct safety assessments at all operations; work with management team to identify hazards and solutions.
  4. Communicate. Facilitate accident and good catch reports for all incidents using our internal accident reporting system.
  5. Obligated. Engage and hold members accountable to sustain and strengthen our safety culture. Develop relevant safety training content and conduct training (new hire, task & refresher).
  6. Transparency and Learning. Lead discussion in developing incident root cause analysis and facilitating implementation of solutions. Understanding Industrial Hygiene testing/monitoring/results specific to dust, noise and ergonomics is beneficial.
  7. Respect and engage. Actively participate in initiatives that support the Corporate Safety Strategic Plan, partnering with business lines on special projects and addressing emerging operational needs as they arise.
  8. Ownership and Caring. Help develop and support safety initiatives across multiple lines of business. Track and report on the status of insurance claims and accidents.
  9. Mastery. Network in national/regional safety & health associations and councils to bring best practices back for consideration at Peckham.

Position Requirements
Requirements, Education and Experience:
  1. Associate or bachelor's degree in safety or related field, preferred.
  2. 3 - 5+ years of experience in safety, construction and/or manufacturing industries OSHA, MSHA, IH or similar.
  3. Strong verbal & written English communication skills, ability to coach/teach all level of employees.
  4. Ability to take initiative and work through difficult situations independently balancing member safety, compliance, and productivity striving for best-in-class results.
  5. An objective mindset to facilitate and investigate safety incidents with the cooperation of all stakeholders quickly.
  6. OSHA/MSHA certified instructor a plus.
  7. Computer literacy, Microsoft Suite.
  8. Must have a valid driver's license and reliable transportation.
  9. Legal right to work in the U.S.

Travel:
Position requires extensive travel by personal vehicle to operations throughout the state of Massachusetts primarily, but also includes Rhode Island and Connecticut based on the needs of the business.
Work Environment/Physical Demands:
This job is a hybrid between an office environment and field work. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers. The job will require extensive field work at our quarries, asphalt plants and road construction jobs; this will require frequent walking, bending or standing as necessary, as well as driving. This role may include moving objects up to 50 lb. or more.
