Job description

Gen-Systems is seeking a Business Development Director (BESS) to drive commercial growth for battery energy storage system solutions across North America. This role will focus on identifying market opportunities, developing customer relationships, and expanding the company’s presence in energy storage applications. The ideal candidate will bring strong market development skills and the ability to translate customer needs into strategic commercial opportunities.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement business development strategies for BESS products and solutions.
  • Identify and qualify opportunities with developers, utilities, EPCs, integrators, commercial customers, and strategic partners.
  • Build and manage a strong pipeline for battery energy storage applications.
  • Lead customer discussions to understand technical, commercial, and project requirements.
  • Coordinate with internal teams to align product capabilities with market opportunities.
  • Support proposal development, pricing strategy, and commercial negotiations.
  • Monitor customer trends, competitive activity, and market developments in the energy storage sector.
  • Build relationships with key stakeholders across the BESS ecosystem.
  • Represent the company at customer meetings, conferences, and industry events.
  • Maintain regular forecasting, CRM discipline, and business development reporting.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Engineering, Energy Systems, or related field.
  • 5+ years of business development, sales, or market development experience in energy storage, power systems, renewables, or related industries.
  • Demonstrated success developing opportunities in technical or infrastructure-related markets.
  • Strong understanding of BESS applications and market drivers.
  • Effective communication and relationship management skills.
  • Strong commercial mindset and customer focus.
  • Willingness to travel as needed.

Desired Qualifications:

  • Direct experience in BESS, renewables, or distributed energy solutions.
  • Existing relationships with developers, integrators, EPCs, or utility-related stakeholders.
  • Knowledge of grid applications, renewable integration, or energy optimization.
  • Experience in a multinational or growth-stage industrial business.
