Job description

Job Title: Batch Mixer - This is a 3rd shift opportunity in Chicago Heights

Job Description

This role involves safely formulating and mixing chemical batches by following detailed batch sheets, operating production equipment, and maintaining accurate records in a modern, temperature-controlled manufacturing environment. You will handle raw materials, monitor pumps and mixers, support packaging and staging activities, and work closely with teammates and supervisors to ensure consistent, high-quality production.

Responsibilities

  • Attend daily safety meetings and consistently follow all safety procedures and guidelines.
  • Receive batch sheets and review them carefully to understand batch requirements and production steps.
  • Formulate chemical batches by accurately weighing and measuring raw materials according to batch specifications.
  • Handle liquid and powder materials from drums, totes, and bags, ensuring safe and controlled transfer.
  • Pour and place materials into reactors, following standard operating procedures (SOPs) at all times.
  • Check gauges, controls, and instrumentation regularly to ensure equipment operates within specified parameters.
  • Monitor running machinery, including pumps, mixers, and milling machines, and respond promptly to any changes or issues.
  • Work with batches up to 4,000 gallons, ensuring consistency, quality, and adherence to process instructions.
  • Notify maintenance immediately if any equipment problem, malfunction, or abnormal condition arises.
  • Keep detailed and accurate records of batch formulations, production activities, and any deviations or issues.
  • Perform housekeeping duties such as sweeping, cleaning, and organizing work areas while machines are running or after batches are completed.
  • Communicate daily batch records and production status clearly to the next shift and to supervisors.
  • Work side by side with a helper, providing guidance on basic job duties, safety practices, and proper procedures.
  • Start with labor-focused tasks to become fully acclimated to the production environment and gradually assume full formulation and batch mixing responsibilities.
  • Assist with packaging, staging, and preparing orders as needed to support overall production and shipping operations.
  • Collaborate with supervisors and follow their direction while receiving comprehensive training on all aspects of the role.

Essential Skills

  • At least 3 years of manufacturing experience.
  • At least 3 years of experience in blending, formulating, chemical operating, or batch mixing.
  • Experience working in chemical or pharmaceutical manufacturing environments, preferred over food production.
  • Ability to read and follow batch sheets and standard operating procedures accurately.
  • Ability to safely handle liquids and powders in drums, totes, and bags.
  • Comfort working with and monitoring large batch sizes, up to 4,000 gallons.
  • Skill in operating and monitoring pumps, mixers, milling machines, and related production equipment.
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy in weighing, measuring, and documenting materials and batches.
  • Willingness to perform physical tasks such as lifting, moving materials, and housekeeping duties.
  • Effective communication skills to coordinate with helpers, coworkers, and supervisors across shifts.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Experience in a modern, organized chemical production environment.
  • Familiarity with reactors, kettles, fillers, and blenders in a batch manufacturing setting.
  • Comfort working in facilities with multiple production lines and varying levels of activity.
  • Ability to adapt between customized, smaller batch work and high-volume, repetitive batch production.
  • Willingness to work different shifts, including first, second, or third shift schedules.
  • Openness to cross-training in packaging, staging, and order preparation.

Why Work Here?

You will join a safety-focused organization that invests in modern, temperature-controlled facilities and emphasizes clean, organized operations. The company offers excellent employee benefits and provides thorough, hands-on training to help you grow into the role. You will work in an environment that values teamwork, clear communication, and operational excellence, with opportunities to gain experience across different types of production and facilities.

Work Environment

The work takes place in modern, temperature-controlled chemical manufacturing facilities. One site offers a recently remodeled, very clean, and highly organized environment with a smaller workforce and fewer lines, kettles, fillers, and blenders, creating a more focused production setting. The other site is larger, houses a few hundred employees across shifts, and supports a higher volume of production with many more lines, which can create a fast-paced and sometimes chaotic atmosphere. Both locations place a strong emphasis on safety and maintain organized inventory and supplies. The chemicals used at both sites are described as not harmful. Operations include manufacturing, bottling, staging, and shipping products, with one facility handling more customized orders and pallets and the other focusing on continuous, repetitive client orders. There are security checkpoints at the entrance of the larger facility and multiple break rooms available to employees. Shift options include first shift (approximately 7:30 a.m.–4:00 p.m., Monday through Friday), second shift (approximately 3:30 p.m.–12:00 a.m., Monday through Friday), and third shift (approximately 11:30 p.m.–8:00 a.m., Sunday through Thursday). The role involves working on the production floor and in warehouse areas, operating machinery, handling materials, and maintaining a clean and orderly work area.
