Job description

Job Title: Lead Batch Maker - Union Department: Production
Last Reviewed: July 2026
  1. Job Description

Under the direction of the Site Leader, performs compounding of materials in a batch processing environment by following specific instructions and procedures within specification, to schedule and on time.
  1. Job Duties and Responsibilities
  2. Produce quality products as scheduled and on time.
  3. Complete daily production requirements by following production schedule.
  4. Maintain assigned equipment by performing required pre-operational, in process and post batch inspections. Immediately report any possibilities of contamination, needed mechanical repair or safety issues to management.
  5. Complete pre-compounding process. Locate raw materials and supplies by pulling and verifying materials and quantities needed as indicated on batch ticket. Report shortages to the Crew leader, or in his/her absence, the Materials Department immediately.
  6. Produce quality products by following batch ticket instructions, sequences, and quality control procedures exactly.
  7. Document raw material use by recording consumption on the batch ticket.
  8. Document all required information and any discrepancies in materials (additions or deletions), processing steps, temperature variations, etc., on the batch ticket.
  9. Prepare and deliver marked batch samples to the Quality Control Laboratory as required.
  10. Control the reintroduction or remix material into the mixers per Quality Control batch ticket instructions.
  11. Determine daily batch priorities and communicate those priorities to other Batch Makers.
  12. Communicate with Production Lead and Site Management about daily overtime requirements.
  13. Housekeeping
  14. Maintain a clean and safe work area, facility and equipment by following routine housekeeping standards.
  15. Cap or plug hose and plumbing fittings when not in use.
  16. Properly store all properly capped, covered or closed operating supplies such as raw materials, drums, totes, etc. in their designated locations before the end of the shift.
  17. Remove empty raw material containers, packages, bags and sacks before the end of the shift.
  18. Equipment must be kept clean of raw material residue, chemicals and adhesive.
  19. Sweep and mop work areas as needed and at the end of each shift. Rinse mop heads and mop buckets and return to the proper storage area after each use.
  20. Return cleaning equipment to assigned area after each use.
  21. Communicate with maintenance about any needed Preventative Maintenance.
  22. Safety
  23. Maintain a safe working environment by following the Meridian "Safety Rules and Guidelines" and the "Code of Safe Practices" as defined in the "Employee Safety Handbook", and by Company policy.
  24. Other Duties
  25. Participate in physical inventory and cycle counting.
  26. Contribute to team effort, i.e. assisting in any area required, etc.
  27. Train designated employees on compounding procedures.
  28. Facilitate continuous-improvement efforts through coaching and providing feedback to other batch makers.
  29. Communicate inventory discrepancies to appropriate personnel.
  30. Participate in safety, loss control, accident, incident and rework investigations, as assigned.

III. Minimum Requirements
  1. Education/Experience
  2. High School diploma or G.E.D.
  3. Minimum 3 years of experience in a related field
  4. Valid state driver's license, with a good driving record
  5. Skills
  6. Mechanical aptitude with practical application skills
  7. Analytical ability
  8. Speak and write English clearly and distinctly
  9. Perform with minimal supervision
  10. Perform basic mathematical skills
  11. Take directions and apply to the assigned task
  12. Working Conditions
  13. Special safety requirements, when working in a plant environment may apply
  14. May be exposed to or required to handle hazardous materials
  15. May work in temperature and weather extremes
  16. Supervision Received

Under the direction of the applicable Site Leader, works directly with Quality Control Technicians, Research and Development Chemists/Technicians, Technical Director, Production Scheduler, Purchasing and Personnel Assistant, Batch Master, Utility Compounder, Compounders, Maintenance personnel, Materials Manager, Plant Manager, Operations Manager and Executive Vice President/General Manager.

Information & Compensation & Benefits
Location: Columbus, Ohio
Schedule: Monday - Friday from 6:00 AM- 2:30 PM
Pay: This position has a salary range of $32.08 per hour. The above range represents the expected salary range for this position. The actual salary may vary based upon several factors, including, but not limited to, relevant skills/experience, time in the role, business line, and geographic location
Bonus Pay: Meridian offers an incentive plan for 2025 focused on safety, quality, and financial metrics. Eligible employees have the opportunity to earn up to $1,520 a year, with earned payments distributed quarterly throughout the year.
