Job description

Position Purpose

Under the direction of the clinic provider, the Resource Team Medical Assistant is accountable for assisting the providers in all back office procedures in all Renown Medical Group and Urgent Care facilities. This position is expected to travel to all sites to provide coverage for vacancies, leave time, and sick calls. This position could be called upon to provide support to the front office if business needs dictate.

These responsibilities could include patient check in and checkout procedures. The incumbent has the added responsibility of providing a direct liaison between provider and patient, making certain that the patient's questions and concerns have been addressed. The Resource Team need to maintain competencies to work on all medical groups and urgent cares to ensure patient needs are met in a timely manner. The position must have the flexibly and willingness to work in all facilities.

Nature and Scope

The Medical Assistant is responsible for assisting the provider in all back office duties including but not limited to: escorting the patient from the waiting room to the examination room promptly, taking vital signs as per guidelines, maintaining examination rooms’ stock, documentation of all patient communications, preparing lab specimens for processing, filling out the necessary referral forms and keeping records of the same, scheduling patients for tests, returning phone calls in the order of importance and filing into patient charts to become part of a permanent record, and administering treatments and medications per provider order in accordance with established policies.

Challenges to this position are delivery of patient care complicated by new techniques, paperwork, changing department and hospital policies, increased information available on each patient, and fluctuations in staffing, with the additional responsibility to float to all facilities as business needs dictate.

The incumbent must demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care based on physical, motor/sensor, psychosocial and safety appropriate to the age of the patient served and meet the standards of quality as measured by the unit/department age specific competency standard.

This position will keep abreast of all standards to assure compliance with federal, state and local regulatory agencies and ensure compliance with federal, state and local regulatory agencies including third party reimbursement requirements.

This position does provide patient care.

Education:

Must have working-level knowledge of the English language, including reading, writing and speaking English. Mathematical skills and basic computer literacy required.

Experience:

Two (2) years of experience in a provider office practice required. Multi-provider office practice experience highly preferred.

License(s):

Valid CA or NV Driver’s license.

Current State of Nevada license for Office Laboratory Assistant or an application must be submitted within 90 days of employment. Failure to apply for and/or receive license within 90 days will result in discharge.

Certification(s):

Current AHA BLS/CPR required.

Ability to obtain and maintain one of the following certifications required at time of hire:

Certified Clinical Medical Assistant (CCMA) – issued by National Healthcareer Association (NHA)

Clinical Medical Assistant Certification (CMAC) – issued by American Medical Certification Association (AMCA)

Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) – issued by American Association of Medical Assistants (AAMA)

National Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) – issued by National Center for Competency Testing (NCCT)

Nationally Registered Certified Medical Assistant (NRCMA) – issued by National Association for Health Professionals (NAHP)

Registered Medical Assistant (RMA) – issued by American Medical Technologists (AMT) or American Allied Health Association (AAH)

National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians (NREMT)

State of Nevada EMT certification – (basic, advanced, paramedic)
