Position Overview

Join our team as a Surgery Dispatcher who performs a variety of administrative and dispatch duties to assist staff, veterinarians, and clients in a hospital setting.

Hagyard Equine Medical Institute in Lexington, Kentucky, is an internationally recognized leader in equine medicine, combining cutting-edge technology with a collaborative team dedicated to advancing equine health and performance.

Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Provide primary phone support for Surgery barns for movement of patients to and from surgical facility.
  • Dispatch barn staff (via radio) to locations of patient as requested from surgical facility.
  • Perform morning census of Surgery barns confirming all current patients and their locations.
  • Monitor department cameras for client/patient arrivals and departures.
  • Notify barn staff of client arrivals (via radio) for loading and unloading.
  • Enter client/patient information into computer database(s) promptly and accurately.
  • Confirm accuracy of intended procedure to be performed on patients.
  • Dispatch recovery tech's (via radio) pre and post-surgery to surgical facility as requested.
  • Confirm all surgeons' patients have arrived for the day.
  • Monitor recovery room cameras for efficiency and safety.
  • Maintain clean and orderly Surgery barn office area.
  • Assist with maintaining appropriate stock of departmental office supplies.
  • Report any required repairs to appropriate personnel.
  • Greet and assist clients and visitors.

Essential Functions

  • Performs clerical and administrative duties.
  • Monitors and assists with ensure efficient and safe operations of the Surgery barns.
  • Holds confidential all records containing patient information.
  • Performs other related duties as directed by supervisor.

Qualifications

  • Education/Experience:
    • High school diploma or GED.
    • Must have equine experience.
    • Dispatching experience is preferred.
  • Language Ability:
    • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general technical procedures. Ability to write/document technical information. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from doctors, other staff and clients.
  • Math Ability:
    • Ability to apply simple math formulas.
  • Reasoning Ability:
    • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
  • Computer Skills:
    • To perform this job successfully, an individual should have general computer software knowledge and keyboarding skills.
