Work EnvironmentInside bars, clubs, and entertainment venuesEntrances, exits, and sometimes inside venues
Employer & IndustryBars, nightclubs, entertainment venuesNightclubs, bars, event venues, sometimes retail

Both roles require similar security certifications and involve maintaining safety in nightlife settings. However, Bar Security primarily focuses on monitoring inside the venue, while Door Supervisors manage entry points and crowd control at the venue's entrance. The choice depends on whether the role emphasizes inside venue security or controlling access at the door.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Bar Security, and why are they important?

To thrive as Bar Security, you need a solid understanding of crowd control, conflict resolution, and safety protocols, often backed by security training or relevant certifications. Familiarity with surveillance systems, ID verification technology, and incident reporting tools is typically required. Strong observation skills, calm under pressure, and effective communication are vital soft skills for this role. These abilities ensure a safe environment for patrons and staff while minimizing risks and effectively managing challenging situations.

What are some common challenges faced by bar security staff, and how can they be managed effectively?

Bar security staff often encounter challenges such as managing intoxicated patrons, diffusing conflicts, and maintaining a safe atmosphere during busy hours. Effective communication, staying calm under pressure, and being able to assess situations quickly are crucial skills. Job description

FieldAI's Irvine team is where embodied AI meets real robots, real sensors, and real field deployments. Based in the heart of Southern California's robotics ecosystem, we build risk-aware, reliable, field-ready AI systems that solve the hardest problems in robotics and unlock the full potential of embodied intelligence. If you want your work to ship, get tested on hardware, and improve through real deployments, Irvine is the place. We go beyond typical data-driven approaches or pure transformer-only architectures, combining rigorous engineering with learning systems proven in globally deployed solutions that deliver results today and get better every time our robots run in the field.
About the Job
The Robotics Product Security Engineer will secure Field AI's autonomous robotic platforms operating in complex real-world environments. You will work closely with robotics, autonomy, and infrastructure teams to design, assess, and improve the security of deployed robotic systems throughout their lifecycle. Your work will directly impact the safety, resilience, and trustworthiness of autonomous systems deployed in the field. You will contribute to secure system design, threat modeling, deployment security, and adversarial assessment of robotic platforms operating under real-world conditions.
What You'll Get To Do
  • Design and improve the security architecture of autonomous robotic systems operating in real-world environments
  • Conduct threat modeling and security reviews across robotic platforms, deployment mechanisms, and operational workflows
  • Secure robot identity, authentication, communications, and over-the-air software update mechanisms
  • Harden embedded Linux systems and robotic compute environments against remote and physical attack vectors
  • Evaluate and improve the security of robotics middleware, system interfaces, and software components deployed on robots
  • Partner closely with robotics, autonomy, and infrastructure teams to integrate practical security controls into development and deployment workflows
  • Perform targeted security assessments, penetration testing, and adversarial analysis of deployed robotic systems
  • Investigate vulnerabilities affecting robotic platforms and help drive remediation and long-term resilience improvements
  • Help define security standards and best practices for autonomous systems operating in complex field environments

What You Have
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Robotics, Cybersecurity, or a related technical field
  • 8+ years of experience in product security, systems security, embedded security, application security, or related security engineering roles
  • Strong software engineering and systems engineering fundamentals
  • Experience securing embedded systems, robotics platforms, autonomous systems, IoT devices, or edge computing environments
  • Experience with Linux systems, networking, authentication, and secure systems design
  • Familiarity with embedded Linux hardening, secure communications, device identity, or OTA update mechanisms
  • Experience with threat modeling, security architecture reviews, penetration testing, or adversarial security assessments
  • Ability to identify practical security risks and implement effective mitigations in complex distributed systems
  • Strong collaboration and communication skills with the ability to work cross-functionally across robotics, autonomy, and infrastructure teams
  • Practical engineering judgment and the ability to balance security, operational constraints, reliability, and development velocity

The Extras That Set You Apart
  • Experience with robotics middleware such as ROS or DDS
  • Experience securing deployed robotic or autonomous systems operating in real-world environments
  • Familiarity with hardware/software trust boundaries and device platform security
  • Experience with vulnerability research, offensive security, or adversarial testing
  • Background in robotics, drones, industrial automation, automotive, aerospace, or other cyber-physical systems
  • Experience working on safety-critical, mission-critical, or highly distributed systems

Our salary range is generous and we consider each individual's background and experience when determining final compensation. Base pay may vary based on role scope, job-related knowledge, skills, experience, and the Irvine, California market.
Why Join FieldAI in Irvine?
In Irvine, you will work where the robots are. Our local team builds and tests systems on real hardware with real sensors, then ships them to operate in unstructured, previously unknown environments around the world. We are solving one of robotics' hardest challenges: reliable deployment outside the lab. Our Field Foundational Modelsโ„ข raise the bar for perception, planning, localization, and manipulation, with an emphasis on explainability and safety for real-world use.
You will collaborate with a world-class team that thrives on creativity, resilience, and bold thinking. We bring deep experience from organizations such as DeepMind, NASA JPL, Boston Dynamics, NVIDIA, Amazon, Tesla Autopilot, Cruise, Zoox, Toyota Research Institute, and SpaceX, along with a track record of field deployments and strong performance in DARPA challenge segments.
Be Part of the Next Robotics Revolution
We are looking for builders who want their work to leave the whiteboard and show up on robots. If you enjoy tackling tough, uncharted questions and working across disciplines, you will find your people here. Our teams span AI, software, robotics engineering, product, field deployment, and technical communication, all focused on shipping systems that perform in the real world.
Our headquarters is in Irvine, and we partner closely with teams there as well as colleagues across the US and around the world. Join us in Southern California and help define what dependable, field-ready autonomy looks like.
We value diverse perspectives and are committed to fostering an inclusive workplace. We evaluate candidates and employees based on merit, qualifications, and performance, and we do not discriminate on the basis of race, color, gender, national origin, ethnicity, veteran status, disability status, age, sexual orientation, gender identity, marital status, or any other legally protected status.
We may use artificial intelligence (AI) tools to support parts of the hiring process, such as reviewing applications, analyzing resumes, or assessing responses. These tools assist our recruitment team but do not replace human judgment. Final hiring decisions are ultimately made by humans.
