The Business Banking Credit Underwriter is responsible for underwriting commercial loans according to the Bank's lending policy and ensuring a high standard of quality and that all procedures are met. The incumbent will review and analyze business and personal financial statements/reports to render credit decisions for Small Business & Business Banking loan applicants to maximize the balance of credit risk and opportunity while verifying that all loan requests are underwritten in accordance with the Bank's policies and all federal & state regulations. The Underwriter will seek appropriate concurrence for requests outside of the individual's assigned credit authority and will document the appropriate denial information to ensure the accurate preparation of any adverse action notices.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Review various personal and business financial statements and reports to calculate financial ratios and complete financial analysis to assess the overall creditworthiness of loan applicants.
  • Assist sales and fulfillment partners from the loan application stage through the loan closing process.
  • Deliver credit decisions within the individual's assigned credit authority and will seek escalated approval authority as necessary.
  • Mentor junior colleagues through credit investigations to assist overall team advancement in rendering sound credit decisions.
  • All other duties as assigned, including but not limited to assistance with audits, compliance, asset recovery management, and other Bank initiatives.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Must have a Bachelor's degree or equivalent work experience with a background in finance or accounting.
  • 5+ years of credit review experience, including demonstrated experience analyzing business and personal financial statements with a proven ability to independently render sound credit decisions.
  • Strong knowledge of Small Business/Business Banking loan underwriting, including hands-on experience with new loan originations, financial analysis, and deal structuring.
  • Must possess excellent oral and written communication skills to interact with both internal and external partners.
  • Must have thorough knowledge of credit and regulatory policies.
  • Must demonstrate excellent analytical skills.
  • Must be proficient in Microsoft Excel.

WSFS Bank will only consider candidates who are presently authorized to work for any employer in the United States and who will not require work visa sponsorship from WSFS Bank now or in the future in order to retain their authorization to work in the United States.

This position may be filled at the Underwriter or Senior Underwriter level based on the candidate's experience, credit authority, and demonstrated underwriting complexity. Level and compensation will be determined during the hiring process.

Salary Range:

$64,491.00 - $105,949.50

Individual base pay may vary on additional factors such as the candidate's experience, job-related skills, relevant education, geographic location, and other specific business and organizational needs.
