Retail Development/Universal Banker - at West Liberty State Bank in West Liberty, Iowa


Our West Liberty State Bank Office of South Ottumwa Savings Bank is seeking a motivated individual to join our Bank team as a Retail Development/Universal Banker in our West Liberty, Iowa location. Our Retail Development/ Universal Banker provides a full range of banking services with an emphasis on personal financial needs, customer service, and retail account growth and takes a lead role in developing and executing initiatives which increase our retail customer base and deposits. This individual is responsible for performing the following:

  • Promotes and sells all bank products and services to existing and potential customers through in-person sales sessions as well as by phone, written correspondence and external sales calls.
  • Assists and consults customers regarding their financial needs and goals.
  • Finds optimum solutions that fit customers' banking needs while ensuring applicable regulations and Bank policies procedures are complied with in the process of transacting business.
  • Opens and services customer accounts including checking, savings, certificates of deposits, IRAs, and electronic banking.
  • Develops and maintains existing deposit relationships.
  • Assists customers with questions and resolves complex technical problems on customer accounts.
  • Makes customer referrals for other products and services including mortgage, agriculture and commercial loans and trust services.
  • Designs, manages and executes sales campaigns/projects to generate leads and accelerate sales growth.
  • Knows, understands and complies with all Bank policies and procedures and banking regulations.
  • Maintains high product knowledge by learning new selling techniques, new products and market trends.
  • Maintains accurate records of all sales production and prepares a weekly report including number of new accounts opened on both the core processing system and referrals, dollar amount deposited, type of funds deposited, and cross-sell ratio.
  • Performs backup teller duties, as needed, and maintains a cash drawer for handling customer account transactions.
  • Represents the Bank in various community activities and volunteer opportunities.
  • Performs all other duties as assigned. Commits to staying busy at all times by routinely seeking and performing value-added work throughout scheduled hours.

This is a full time, non-exempt from overtime position with a daytime schedule of approx. 40 hours per week, Monday through Friday and some regularly scheduled Saturday mornings.

Requirements:

Must be able to work a full time, daytime schedule of approximately 40 hours per week, Monday through Friday, and approx. 2 Saturday mornings per month. Must have high school diploma or equivalent. Previous experience in banking or a marketing or sales role strongly recommended. Must be motivated with a desire to increase business and provide excellent customer service. Excellent oral and written communication skills with the ability to resolve problems and effectively deal with dissatisfied customers required. Knowledge of effective sales and marketing techniques and/or bank operations and procedures desired. Strong computer, typing, clerical and general math skills needed. Must be able to solve everyday problems with only general operational methods available. Decisions involve ingenuity and initiative with little supervision received except in the usual cases. Previous cash handling and customer service experience as well as reliable attendance and punctuality are required. Requires a current driver's license, insurance, and reliable vehicle for periodic daytime travel in area for calls on current and potential customers and various events.

Must be able to pass a background screening including a credit and criminal check.
